What to do with old VHS tape

Some VHS movies are worth money as they show the ORIGINAL movie and not some later version with stuff digitally added. The Star Wars films were all messed with in later issues.

Use Handbrake to transfer your movies from DVD and Bluray to your computer. Get rid of it all...

I used many of my old VHS tapes as "lifts" to display my wife's retro knick-knacks on top of the kitchen cabinets.

Now if I could just find a use for all the Beanie Babies in my basement!

I have the original Star Wars trilogy without the modifications later made by Lucas. (Han shoots first :D) Wonder if they are worth anything?

They are and will be even more so after the next Star Wars movies come out. These will be worth gold then. Same for the toys and such. However, do not ever buy anything marked as Collectors edition because those are made especially for those suckers (I was one once but learned) these are never worth the money you spent to begin with.

Ask the folks who hung onto their old 78 RPM records.

Movies can be transferred over to DVD but those are on the way out, too.

If you go to a Salvation Army or Goodwill Store, they're flooded with the things.

Unless it's of a personal nature, I'd pitch the whole lot.

On a related note, anybody want to buy my Panasonic Omnivision Video Camera? Make your own movies, 1986 style!
Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow.

Whats replacing the DvD? ****, I dont want to start over again.

Over the years we had some VHS tapes and no longer have a machine that will play them, let alone the fact that some of the newer high def t.v.s will not play them clearly. My wife found a guy locally that converts VHS tapes over to C.D.s, he charges about $25 per VHS...it seems like highway robbery, but hes the only show in town. We only had a few family made VHS tapes that we wanted to keep, according to the guy you still need to re-burn the C.D. about every 5 years unless you get some really high quality C.D. Once you have the C.D. just about any computer with a disc feed will allow you to download the C.D. so you can burn another C.D. at will. Thats probably the next thing to go is disc feeds on computers, they are already something you have to ask for when getting one built, they are switching over to thumb drives which only require a small port.

Go to wally world and get the VHS player to DvD recorder and do your own. These tax title and license--cost about $185.00

Heres a use for beanie babies--the guy who just posted here earlier about his wares: those mini cannons @ www dot pocket artillery dot com.:D

Digital on line movies, Amazon, Netflix etc.
If you want to own your own copies they will be stored on THE CLOUD.

That stuff is above me. And to think I was just getting used to DvDs after just starting to get used to VHS.

VHS

Caj, if you find a market for them let me know my wife has a stash of them too. I would like the room for important stuff(you know like ammo and gun parts). I would gladly ship them to La via the Mississippi River, floatation shipping container optional.

Where did you go to get that done? I have a couple of important ones I'd like to do the same with.

Costco can transfer VHS, S-VHS, Beta, VHS-C, Hi8, Digital 8, 8mm, and MiniDV tapes to DVD.

Services & Pricing: Home Videos, Film and Slides to DVD - Transfer your home video to DVD

They can usually put 2 of your original tapes onto a single DVD for the same price. Maximum of 2 hours per DVD.

They can also copy your old film home movies to DVD. I had ours done a couple of years ago, and the DVD actually looks better than the projected film, due to computer enhancement during the copy process.

VHS

Walmart, Walgreens, Sams club etc. all copy vhs among other types onto dvd, or computer discs, thumbnails? IDK I'm not tech savvy. Once they are done selling everyone a flat screen & go to smart TV's I'm sure the dvd's will be obsolete also.

Software for VHS tapes?

Sgt Lumpy

My cousin is a "tech guy" and insists that there are two types of devices in the world "hardware" and "software" By that he means that a record player is hardware with records being the software. Thus for, better or worse, a VHS tape is software to the players hardware... Guess I fell into his habit.
