What to use that is in between .38+P and .357 ?

Well , I tested the Speer gold dot short barrel, Remington Golden Sabre 125 gr., and Federal Hydra shok 130 gr. in my 649-3.

Softest shooting was definately the Gold dot short barrel 357. The Remington, was next and believe it of not , the Hydra shock 130 gr. was the worst. It felt like a full power 357.
I will be using the Gold dot short barrel 357 from now on!

Now that's the way to determine what works for you!
Gold Dot properly placed will definitely get the job done.

The 41mag i believe it hands the magnum rounds better than the 357mag rounds but with more power and a heavier bullet.

The most accurate 357 mag round i have used was the 140gr speer JHP with 2400 powder. In my python at the time with the 6" barrel i could ping small rocks on the 100yd berm. Thats pinpoint accuracy at 100yds.

Good info on the 357 Gold Dot,gents. I use the 38+P Gold Dot in the 135gr.as well as the 125 Golden Saber in my 2 1/2 inch carry gun,but havn't tried the 357 Gold Dot.
I'll give it a shot, although I don't find the recoil of the Sabers objectionable at all in this gun.Guess that comes from years of full house magnum loads.;)
One reason I went with the 38 Gold Dot was seeing the testing on it from Doc Roberts, then testing it in my own guns. I theorized that with the short ejector rod of the 2 1/2 in.gun the 38 cases would clear better with the slap, speeding up reload time if necessary.
Just trying to be a good shortstop and cover all the bases.
