Maybe not the deal of the year but ok if you want the long barrel and a couple hundred bucks of ammo... (I do not pay inflated prices for ammo)

A new 686+ is MSRP $899.00. Ammunition today is around, and I'll use round numbers, 90 cents a round. Assuming it's factory ammunition. I don't buy anyone's handloads so there is that. I took a quick look at one auction website and the most expensive 686 I saw was $1040.

So, it does sound like the deal of the year. :D

It does have an 8 3/8" barrel and these have held their value (relative to shorter barrel guns) fairly well.

A nice example of this gun in the current market would be about $900. The seller didn't pay current prices for ammo (I hope) but if the gun checks out it seems to be a decent deal. Range report! :)

Silly question, but is ammo new or reload? Bob

haven't seen it yet but is supposed to be factory. seller was left all by dying cousin and has no use for it. also his wife is breaking his jewels to make it gone. should happen Thursday. krs/kenny

If it is factory ammo, 20 boxes at $20 a box (very low price these days) would mean the gun is $800.

A long barreled SS L-Frame could be the ideal platform for the .357 Magnum. It might be a good tactic to offer $1,000 for everything, especially if that harpy, oops, I mean the wife, happens to be within earshot. :D

Keep the ammo. Throw away the gun...:D Just kidding. Too many variables for me: condition of gun, factory or handloaded ammo, LOOONG-barreled gun... I'd offer less, depending on the above. On top of this, the hassle (for me, at least) selling a long-barreled gun. $900 top for the pkge.

P.S. Let me add, the $ of having a gunsmith install a 2.5" bbl on the gun so it can become something useful. Also, the $ of better grips.

I can't imagine a practical use for an 8 3/8" barreled 686 for me.

If I thought I could flip the gun quickly for enough to result in paying $20/ box for the ammo, I'd be a buyer.

Understand, it's the ammo that makes this interesting, not the gun.

not bad

made deal yesterday after work. 686-3 8 3/8" barrel. 2 uncle mike's holsters. 500rds in factory packaging including 2 boxes of 25 each Golden saber and other assorted others of various bullet types and brands. couple partial boxes and ammo can 1/3 full assorted loose. maybe 200rds or so. $1000 down the road. happy camper. :) krs/kenny

Good deal!

I think people are a bit confused on the difference between "is this a good deal" and "do I really need this gun." In my state of WA, with all transactions requiring an FFL, there's far less incentive to buy guns just because they're a good deal and try to flip later for something else. I pass on "good deals" all the time because of the hassle.
