What was the First Gun you purchased for yourself?

In 1980 I bought a marlin 30/30 336 with a 24 inch barrel.had 10 rounds run thru it.gun, case, sling, cleaning kit,and the other box and a half ammo came in the package.ninety dollars was the price.still have it to this day.oh yeah, with the price of 30/30s today, wish I could have picked up a few more at that price.gunnut2

1967 4" 38 colt Diamondback. Unfortunatly it spent most of its time that I owned back at the Colt factory being put back in time. Cool looking handgun though.

Used Ruger Standard .22 Auto Pistol, 6" barrel, for $25 in an adjoining state with my father fronting for me. Shot it quite a lot for a couple of years then sold it for the same #25 to help pull money together for an old Colt SAA.

Still have the Colt and eventually found a 4 3/4" replacement for the Ruger which is a fine little gun.

I had several guns that I inherited, but never owned a pistol until I bought this Sig P220.

Congratulations! You started at the top of the pistol pyramid. Sooner or later, if you keep buying and trying firearms, you'll realize that SIG-Sauer offers the best combination of accuracy, dependability and "appetite" for any sort of ammo you want to feed their pistols.

Expensive...and worth every penny you pay.

Almost forgot; my first purchase was a Ruger Single Six Convertible from a friend of mine. Still have it and shoot it occasionally, mostly with the .22 Mag. cylinder which is slightly more accurate than the .22LR version.

My first purchase was a Remington 870 Wingmaster 3" 12 gauge pump with ventilated rib. I bought it in the late 60's to hunt ducks with my Dad. It's in beautiful condition. I no longer hunt, and I'm more into pistols now (just bought an M&P 40), so I'm thinking of selling it. What's (1) the best way of determining its value, and (2) where is the best place to sell it? Thanks.

The first gun I ever bought was a Ruger Single-Six. I bought it from my brother who had bought two at a sporting good store for the total price of $161 total. He gave me one for $75 so I'd have something that I could afford to shoot. I was in my first year of seminary and... as with all students... money was tight. It was later traded for a S&W M-17. If I could, I'd buy another Single-Six from that era (1979). It was a wonderful revolver. I just simply did not know what I had.

Greetings, All,

First four guns:

High Standard Double Nine, which I later gave to my brother, who "conveniently" lost it!

Old Model Ruger Single Six Convertible, .22/.22Mag, with a 9 1/2" barrel. Still have it, still love it!

Colt .357 revolver, my first center fire pistol. Great gun, but the trigger had been lightened too much for a novice like myself. I later sold it for more than twice what I paid, originally, but wish I had kept it, now.

1908 Winchester 30-30. Bought it to hunt Javalina, which I never did. But, I surely put tons of rounds down that round tube in the many years I owned it. Loved the smell of that old gun!! I later traded it, along with some coin, for my Freedom Arms Field Grade, Magnaported (4) .454 Casull, which is flat-out the most accurate pistol I've ever shoot!!

Wish I had all four of my original guns back, now, instead of just the Ruger. But, hey, I learned, early NOT to trade, nor give away, nor sell firearms, as you will ALWAYS regret having done so, later..... Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

The first gun I partially purchased was a Winchester model 69A bolt action .22 rifle. My dad and I split the astronomical sum of $24, and we bought it on my birthday at age 11 in 1950.

However, the first gun I bought on my own was in 1960, when I turned 21. It was a Ruger standard model 6" identical to the one pictured below. I learned to shoot a handgun with it, but in the following year I traded it in on a U.S. Model 1911A1 Ithaca before I entered the Army. I wish I had kept that original Ruger. Displaying it one dark night kept my then girlfriend and me from being attacked by a gang of thugs. Ever since, I've respected the utility of having a handgun readily available.

First handgun was an Italian replica of a Colt '51 Navy. Had a lot of fun with that one!

First rifle was a 50. cal. TC Hawken. Shot it a lot.

First centerfire handgun was a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt. If somebody tells you you can't wear out a Ruger handgun, don't believe them!

First shotgun was a Winchester 12 ga. 101. Couldn't hit a thing with it. Went back to the Ranger pump and eventually traded the 101 for an SKB SxS.

Both the Navy and the Ruger were stolen. Still have the Hawken.

First gun I purchased for myself...

Ruger 10/22 Carbine...Standard Model with walnut stock...$69.95 brand new. Still have it. Sent it back to Ruger years ago for a re-blue/rebuild and haven't shot it since.

From an individual: Ithaca 16ga. pump.
From a shop: Ruger MK II.

S&W, Model 10, 4" heavy barrel as a duty weapon. Back in 1970 we had to purchase our handgun. That changed in the '80s when the department issued S&W, 681, 4" L frames. By 1992 we were being issued S&W 6946's in 9mm. The first gun I actually purchased for my own personal use was a Browning, Highpower (9mm) for the exorbitant price of $114.00.

I think it was made by Iver Johnson but it was a little fixed frame, 7 shot, 22 short revolver. I honestly only shot it a few times because shells were hard to come by and I doubt I could hit anything with it anyway. But that was my "woods" gun for a couple years until in 8th Grade I bought an H&R Hammerless in 32 S&W short. Ironically the H&R had a broken trigger return spring so was also my introduction to firearms repair and reloading.

The first NEW firearm was a Stevens 3l1 in 20 ga, which my dad had to sign for. The first I legally bought was a Browning BL-22 which I bought new the week after I turned 18.

When I was in the 8th grade I walked in the local sporting goods store, with my Dad, and gave $24 for a new H&R Topper single shot 20 gauge. That was in 1966, no problem with a boy buying a gun back then. First handgun was a .22 Stoeger Luger. First new handgun was a early Model 14 .357 Dan Wesson.

H&R model 900 .22 revolver 9 shot I still have it. The barrel got a bit loose and could be wiggled up or down in the frame. A drop of Locktite in the joint fixed that about 20 years ago.

Remington Model 740 Bdl from JC Penny's... Just turned 18 years old. Dang thing jammed every 5th shell like clockwork. Handgun was a Ruger Blackhawk 3 screw 41 mag when I turned 21
