What was the first handgun you ever shot?

A Colt 22, belonged to another guy. I remember it had a round barrel. This was about 1949, when I was 16. We were supervised by a school teacher. No ear or eye protection. My first four shots were good but I jerked the fifth. I still am very partial towards jerking the trigger.

Mine was my dad's .22 mag HiStandard derringer. It was his BUG with the local SO. Shot it at my Uncles farm when I was about 5 or so. I remember I had to use my middle finger to pull the trigger as I couldn't with my index. Don't know what happened to it, but it's one on my gun wish list!

A Star FR Target, when I was about eleven....

Still have it, and the box...

Nothing fancy or exotic. Just a .22 LR Ruger Single Six. I thought the convertible cylinders were really neat.

I remember the .22 WMRs being real barkers.

While I cannot remember the first rifle I ever shot, the first handgun I ever shot was a Smith Model 64 four inch. It was one of my grandfathers service revolvers and he made me spend a week dry firing and learning the Weaver stance before I was allowed to fire the gun. With target wadcutters out of the bull barrel it felt like a .22LR.

I feel lucky to have been raised on revolvers from a young age, I gained a knack for the long smooth DA trigger, whereas other guys my age seem to take a while to learn to master it.

First one I shot was a H&R 22 Target gun at 8 y.o. We snuck it out of the house and didn't get caught. First one I bought was a Colt SAA 38-40 made in 1900. Was a whole 15 bucks and was gonna show 'em all I was a quick draw x pert LOL. then I realized if my parents caught me with that thing it was a goner me too!. Hid it for 7 yrs. Still have it and it is still about 65% condition. Worth a little bit more'n I paid. Never have shot it!

my dads m 41 field grade,we would go to my grannys in the country every weekend from louisville and hunt, fish and shoot, sadly my brother got his paws on it and sold it,along with dads m19

Wow, this takes me back a few years. Back in the 60's, my dad took out his World War II short barrel P-38. He let me fire one mag through it.

When I was in Boy Scouts in the late 1970s, one of the senior members was a local police officer. He would bring his .357 revolver with him on camping trips. (Probably loaded with .38 special), he'd let us each take turns firing it.
Guessing, I'd have to say it was a Model 13 or 19.

miss the gun... but miss the man more...

when I was 5 or 6 I got to "help" my dad shoot his S&W K22(?) 6" it had stag horn grips and a custom tooled holster my father made himself...
I have fond memories standing inside my late fathers arms as he helped me steady my aim and skip the pop cans on the river bank... sadly the gun was stolen along with his nickel model 15 and model 39... thankfully I still have the holster... and it fits my 617 perfectly... my tribute to a man who showed me the path thru life and allowed me to stumble along at my own pace...

In 1959 in Nova Scotia I shot my Dad's buddy's pellet pistol and loved it. After I got my first job I bought a Daisy CO2 BB gun pistol.

First real handgun though was a S&W model 15 in 4 inch I believe. Older one as I remember diamonds on the grip. That would be in 1973 when I reached my first duty station with the AF. I found it a challenge as the M-16 seemed too easy. That got me into handguns and S&W especially.

Got a late start in life, at least w/handguns:around the mid-90s with an Interarms Walther PPK .380.

first time with a handgun was in the 70's, my dad had me shoot his 357 when i was maybe 14 or so. Note i was a little guy (was a 126# wrestler in HS to give an idea on my lack of bulk back then lol). About all i can remember from that not-so-fun day was i'm pretty sure it drew blood when it kicked back into my forehead.

didnt really shoot a handgun again until several years ago when the in-laws gave me their dad's 50's era Colt Challenger as my first handgun. Now i have a new hobby ;)

A High Standard .22 in the 1970s.
Strange as it may sound now,I wasn't very acquainted with Smith models when I later got my PL.I had a desire for a HS and a Colt Diamondback, both were discontinued by that time,so I had to investigate other brands.
No matter,I'm more than happy with my 41 and 17.
