This has probably been posed as a thread before. But, I thought it would make for some interesting reading.

I am 67 y/o and my first gun was given to me at age 8 by my grandfather. It was a Stevens over and under .22 LR on top and .410 on the bottom. Cannot even begin to guess how many squirrels and rabbits met their demise at the wrong end of that little gun.

BTW: I still have it.

Your first gun was a good one. Mine was a Savage bolt action 22 at age ten followed by a Stevens 16ga single shot. Can't begin to tell you what that hobby turned in to.

My first gun! At about age 12 (circa 1957) my father bought a Mossberg .22 semi auto from a person that needed some quick money. I do not remember model but it had a plastic fore end that would drop down.

Dad was a part time hunter and not really a gun person but I was even at that age quite interested in guns, so he gave it to me. I had it for a few years shot the heck out of it and sold it to get money to buy something better. (Save that gun for another tread:D)

An H&R 20ga. single-shot, that I bought at age 13. I walked into the sporting goods store, took my pick between it and the lever Ithaca, paid them my $25 and took it home. It was back in 1966, no 4473s back then. The good old days.

It was 1954, Dad was an Army Captain, CO of a Nike Ajax missile battery protecting Detroit, Mich. We had just returned to the states from a tour of duty in Germany ( as Army of occupation). Dad bought me a Savage bolt action .410 shotgun. I was eleven years old and shot my first pheasant with it. The rules in my house were that I could go hunting any time I wanted as long as it was the season, I had a license, went alone and I bought my own ammo. After Detroit, we moved to Texas where I threaten the rabbit and quail population. The gun got passed down thru the kids. My youngest sister still has it.

My 10th birthday in 1968. Dad bought it used for $40 from Mikey's gun shop in Queens NY. I loved going to the basement shop he ran out of his house. What a character...I remember he was quite old and had a funny lisp and a oddly shaped index finger that was deformed from a firearm related accident. I also got my first pistol from him in 1977 after becoming a fan of "Starsky and Hutch"...almost got a 59 but Mikey showed me the Browning Hi-power and it was love at first sight. Still have both.

I inherited my Dad's Stevens single barrel shotgun in 12 gauge in my teens as he didn't hunt anymore. Passed it on to my brother who returned it to Dad. He later gave it to me again and still have it as a wall hanger as it's no longer safe to shoot.
My first gun I bought was a Ruger MKI bull barrel which I still have.

mine was a remington 514 youth model 22,dont know how old i was just remember it seemed awfully be to me,killed lots of empty 22 boxs and twigs thrown in our pond with it

First that was actually mine was a Ruger Single Six Convertible, 5.5" barrel that was traded for a Smith 17. First gun I shot was my Dads Winchester 69.

I didn't get my first guns until I was past 40, 1988 or so. My family was not into guns, but my folks had no objection if I went hunting with their kids and their families, so I went pheasant and duck hunting on a few occasions. Later on, I had friends who had guns, so I would get to shoot occasionally: 1911, BHP, Smith model 29, some black-powder revolvers, etc. I really liked the 1911s and shot them pretty well, so I considered buying one, but never had any money left over from motorcycles.

Then a buddy offered to sell me a couple of CZs at a pretty good price. They appealed to me because I had a few Czech motorcycles, Jawas and CZs. So my first guns were a vz.50 and a vz.52. My next purchase was a Smith & Wesson. Still haven't got a 1911, but it's still on the list, just not at the top.

Remington 572 Fieldmaster. 18th birthday present.

Of course I've still got it. It's only been 40 years.

My very first gun was a Ranger #2 32 Rimfire (Saturday Night Special). My Dad broke off the firing pin and gave it to me to play with when I was about 7 or 8 YO.
My first functioning gun was a Stevens/Springfield M15 .22 single shot rifle. IIRC, I was around 11 or 12.
My first S&W was a a Victory (or Lend-Lease, I didn't know the difference at the time) that had been sleeved to .22LR. I traded for it when I was 14 or 15........
And so began my habit....:o;)

I was also 8 when I got my first 22, it was a Mossberg 151M, that I'm still shooting to this day, I also had a 22/410, good rabbit gun.

Remington Nylon 66 Apache Black. Still have it.

Like Voyager28, my first gun was a Savage Model 24DL over/under with the .22LR on top and a .410 barrel on the bottom.

I got it when I was fourteen and I'm sixty-five now. It's still in great shape and as accurate as ever. It put a lot of cottontail rabbits in the stew pot as I was growing up.

My son now owns it or I would post some pictures. He received it for his 13th Christmas.

That was the gun I learned to shoot with. My grandfather would take me out to the range every Saturday morning where I would burn through a box of ammo...fifty rounds. We did that for several months until eventually I started improving a bit.

Great little gun.

Mine was an inherited H&R single shot 16 gauge. Grouse were plentiful, and it took some skill to get off multiple shots as a covey would burst out one bird at a time. It helped that the lock was worn and it would pop open and eject the empty on its own whenever you shot...

I felt like I had really moved up when I marched into a store and bought my own brand-new 870 Wingmaster pump 12 gauge - and that one still sees regular duty some 41 years later.

Mine was a Mossberg 16ga bolt action shotgun. I bought it with my paper route money when I was 12. It was stolen along with a 10/22 in one of my many moves when I was single but that's another story.

Mine was a savage model 72 crackshot, falling block, top break, single shot when I was 7. I still have it.

It slayed a lot of northeast chucks, rats, rabbits, and squirrels in it's day.

Even now, it is accurate and fun to shoot and it has taught many a new, young shooter the basics of safety and marksmanship.

Here it is:
