What was your first handgun purchase?

My first handgun purchase was a High Standard Sport King 6" barrel. Bought from a guy a year younger than me my senior year in high school. Gave him $40 for it. He brought to my locker during school between classes in his three ring binder. I put it in my locker and took it home with me that afternoon.

An H&R model 900 .22 revolver 9 shot, with remove to load cyl. bought about 1966. After a couple of years light shooting the barrel became loose in the frame. I put a couple of drops of Loctite in the barrel/frame joint and it has been fine since.

I did not grow up in a gun family, not opposed just not into it, but I bought a ruger 22 when I was 18 or so. It was used and it came in a holster. I used to shoot it a lot but I haven't for a while. I should remedy that. There was an article on them in some magazine and I was able to look up the age and it is even older than me, pre mark 1. I have other choices today but for many years it was all I had. My sons will enjoy it.

I worked all summer for my contractor father and saved the $141.50 purchase price of a Ruger Super Single Six. He purchased it for me, I was all of 16. I still have it with all the paperwork, box and receipt. Ruger rebuilt it in the '90's and it's still going strong.

Very first handgun was an Essex framed 1911 .45 colt semi-auto in 1971. It was made up by an armorer at Marine Corps Base Barstow of the Essex frame and government parts. Paid 115.00 cash to the young man. It has a BoMar rear sight and shoots straight. I've talked about it before here. Shot a plastic coke bottle cap at a measured 83 yards with it.

My first NIB handgun was a Model 28-2 for $225.00 out the door. Not knowing better I threw away the box but I still have the tools.

An H&R top break hammerless in 32 S&W. Bought it in 8th grade history class. It had a broken trigger return spring, which I repaired.

This was mine. Came with Goodyears on it. Online purchase. 28 no dash from 1960. Bob

Remembered that at 21 years old my 1st handgun was a H&R 6" 949. I worked at night and my wife wanted some company. {along with the German Shepard} Did not keep it that long. Bob

My very first was a 2" RB M10. Sadly I sold it. :( I sold it because I opted for a smaller and easier to conceal M60 no dash. Sold that one too - and bought a M60-7. While I would never sell that one, I don't use it for EDC any longer - went over to a Sig P365.

First gun I paid for was in 1965 and was an astra 400. Shortly after that it was a Belgium Browning challenger. It was an awesome pistol, but like an idiot I sold it a few years later.
We've all done that.....I was worse with guitars. I could pay for my house with just the Gibsons I pissed away in high school....

I bought an H&R 676, 22 caliber revolver with a 6 inch barrel. On the way home from the LGS I stopped at the creek and threw a bottle in the water. I probably didn't come within a foot of it! Thought I'd just wasted a lot of money.
Then I got a book by Ed McGivern about double action revolver shooting and I learned the "tricks". All of a sudden that H&R got real accurate.

My first that I purchased entirely on my own was a S&W M19-5 snubby that I bought when I returned home from the service in 1985. I had tagged along with my Dad as a kid when he bought a few, so I can't count those. I still have some of them, but I wish I had that M19 still.
I had "sold" it to a coworker for a good price when I needed some money with the understanding that I could buy it back when I was able. Unfortunately it was stolen from his truck at work. He reported it to the police, but nothing ever came of it.

Made the final payment at the end of March 1983. The receipts show I put 5% down and each payday after I paid $100, $100 and $102.02 for a total of $317.92. I refused the first one the dealer received because the bluing on the barrel was scuffed up from what looked like slipping while it was clamped in a vise.

First handgun purchase

Round about 1994, when Virginia started passing gun control laws under Democrats.

A police trade in Model 64 4" barrel target grips $199.

Ticket to an addiction that I have only recently conquered.

Can't find a photo of it. Traded it on a brand new 4" Model 15 if I remember correctly.
