What was your first N frame?

Back in 1973 I went into a big box and in the pistol case was a new M27 blue 8 3/8 in a cardboard box. At that time any decent S&W was hard to get especially at MSRP, so I bought it.

Put a lot of hot rounds threw it and after a couple years I found a M29 8 3/8 got rid of the 27. I used both guns for deer hunting but never got a shot when I had the 27. Did take a coupe deer with the 29.:D

FWIW I do have a couple more N frames in the safe!:)

Funny, like Shotgunner and nate-dogg my first N frame was a model 57 with 8 3/8" barrel but in nickel. I bought it soon after I turned 21 years old.

I only have two. The first was a finish challenged first year HP 4inch. Excellent mechanically, but it had already been refinished once before I got it. I had the trigger and hammer case hardening redone and also had it reblued but there was a miscommunication between me and the finisher on the prep work before he did the blue job. Still a decent looking shooter but it was disappointing.

First N frame-actually my first gun purchased with my own money-was an 83/8" Model 27 blued in presentation case bought in 1975 from Temento's Sporting Goods on the West Bank for the princely sum of $299.99 plus tax. Long since gone, sigh. But while everyone had their model 19's and 66's I had A THREE FIFTY SEVEN MAGNUM ON THE FORTY FOUR MAGNUM FRAME!! And my barrel was twice as long as theirs ;) Of course trying to find a belt holster for that sucker was a bear
Good memories for sure

I already stated my first N frame was a 28-2 which I traded for a 1971 Browning HP that I still have. Actually, I am thinking of getting rid of all of my K frames with the exception of my 18-3. I just really like the N frame, and wish I had more. A 29-5 Classic DX 5", 38/44 Outdoorsman, 629-0,25-2, 6 M28's, and a 27-2 are not enough:D:

My first N frame was a model 1917 a commercial from 1937.

Only have 2 other N frames. And one of them is in .22lr.

My first Smith was a Mod 19-3. My first N frame was a 6 1/2" Mod 29-2. I bought it in 1973 from a friendly owner of the LGS and retired LEO who had a personal connection to a S&W distributor. This was his personal gun, unfired, and he tried to talk me out of buying it by putting a very high price on it, $400! Like an idiot, I bought it anyway. (Thank God good sense prevailed.)
The seller felt so guilty for the high price that over the next several years he sold me many hard to find Smiths at VERY appealing prices to make up for it. A 38-44 Outdoorsman, a Mod 53, Mod 59, Mod 17, Mod 27-2, and a few other things not coming to mind right now. He also taught me how to handload.
I have ten N-frames now and one L-frame. The Model 29-2 still looks and shoots like new.

Mine was my 5 screw pre 25-2, bought in 1991. Or really I should say traded. I wanted a 25-2 badly, a friend had one and I loved it. I was too young and ignorant of the "pre" or number of screws thing to appreciate that. Anyhow, LGS had one on the wall for $325. I had a DCM M1 Garand I had refinished, and was sick of it. I traded even. Not sure if that was a good deal. I don't care, since I love that Smith!

I thought of it as a $165 gun traded for a $325 one, and I didn't have $325 at the time. I hated that M1, but again I was young. Knowing what I know now, I could have tamed it. But, it has been replaced, so I guess I got the bases covered!!

I'm at work now, but if I remember I'll post a pic of the pre 25-2 when I get home.

I'm thinning out my collection a lot.
I'll end up with half as many guns as I have now.
Then I can change my signature. ;)

I bought an N Frame M27 with the 8-3/8" barrel in the 70s. Amazingly bad QC on that gun. It was my first N Frame.

I remember my brother telling mt that he bought a .44 Magnum Dirty Harry type pistol with a 8 3/8 barrel and sold it shortly afterwards because it wasn't accurate.
