What was your first N frame?

My 1st N was a 28, 6" no dash from 1960. It was my 1st. online gun purchase. Got the stocks at a flea market for $1. Nothing has been done to the finish of the stocks except some bees wax. Been very happy with it. It spends too much time in the safe! Have a 25, 625, and a 29. Bob

Mine, a M28 6", and it was in the mid-1970's.
I was in my late teens, working p/t at a LGS and had recently gotten my first centerfire handgun, a Ruger Security Six, SS, 4" and soon thereafter also took up handloading.

Being young and stoopid, a friend and I began to experiment with +P+ .357 handloads.
An area Detective with our local PD who was an inveterate gun trader wanted that Ruger S6, as SS guns were a bit hard to come by at the time. He offered to trade even for his M28 6".

I viewed that M28 with all that beef in the cylinder, plus a longer barrel as a great platform for more nuclear .357 loads. We made the trade.

I'm ashamed to say, I tortured that M28 with stuff no one in their right mind should shoot.
It never showed any signs it was worse for the wear.

It went away on some un-recalled trade in the 90's.
Neat memories though.

Thankfully, that stage of handloading went away without me ruining any guns or hands or fingers.

A 6.5" Model 29-2 I bought new in 1976 for $350. Still hard to find at that time due to Dirty Harry.

Stolen in 1985 I bought another just like it.

Honestly, I forgot that my first N-frame S&W was a 29-2 that I had to have after shooting my uncle's pre-29, that was back in the 70's, we parted ways back in the 80's. My first N-frame I acquired that actually got me interested in semi-collecting S&W revolvers was a very nice '53 Outdoorsman with its original box, still have it.

And now...

My most recent N frame.:D

It will still take it's sweet time to get to my hands(don't you just love beaurocracy?). so, I'll give you...

A 1972 model 1955/25-2 in .45 ACP.

Early 80s I got a 6 inch 28........didn't get much use and was eventually replaced by a 6 inch 686. Didn't have another until the turn of the century when I stumbled on a 98% Registered Magnum in a LGS.

Today I have only 3.... the RM; a 4" ,nice enough to be proud of but not so nice I wouldn't carry it in Penn's Woods, 27-3 and a real nice 4" 28.

My first N-Frame was a 1978 6 1/2" 29-2 Dirty Harry gun. Love it.

Believe it or not, my other is a .357 TRR8 8 shot. The N-Frame can make .357 Mags real tame.

My first was a 38/44 Transitional model with a 5" barrel. Still have it, what a wonderful piece of design and craftsmanship it is.

Then a 4" model 28 and a 6" model 28....both extraordinary revolvers

Mine was a 29-2, blued 6" in the box (however it was my 2nd S&W, a 586, in 1986 was the first). A friend of mines, dad had it, and hadn't shot it in quite some time and he didn't like how it kicked anyway. I was still in the army and got it for $325 in 1988 (almost a months pay). That was start of my obsession. I still have both.

My First N Frame .........

Just home after being discharged in 1965 from the USAF and recently approved to be a reserve on the small town police force, I wanted to compete in the shoots that were conducted by the NCLEA during the events hosted by the county. We furnished our own weapons for duty and competition (if you competed). I found what I judged to be the ultimate target revolver, a first year Highway Patrolman but it had been nickel plated. Not realizing it made any difference by whom the plating was applied I sent it to S&W asking for several modifications, it was returned to me with an explanation that since it wasn't plated by S&W they would not perform any work what-so-ever. Fortunately, I met Mr. Roy Jinks at the Gun Show held in Winston-Salem a month or so later, explained the situation to him and was advised to call him at the factory on Monday when he had returned. The call was made and instructions were to send it back to S&W and to his attention. My requests were to cut the barrel to 5", reblue, McGivern Gold Bead Front, White Outline Rear, Target Hammer & Trigger and Target Stocks. I now had a bright blued HP with some really nice accessories added. Wish I could locate the paperwork for these upgrades.
After I became a member of the S&WCA I asked Mr. Jinks at one of our meetings if he remembered the incident, of course he did not but I will never forget him making it possible for a young aspiring reserve police officer to own something I have always considered to be very special and he will always be my hero!

Model 27 Classic just a few years ago. Then I picked up a 4" Model 25. Wait. Not true. A Lew Horton 3" Model 629 was my first. I happily got rid of it so long ago I had to dredge up and old memory!

The elk grips are on the Model 25 and I have a set for the Model 27. Much nicer in my opinion than the factory wood. I might sell the factory wood someday; you never know!

First one I shot was a 6" nickel 27-2 at the age of 13. First one I owned was a 6" 28-2. First one I've kept more than six months is another 6" nickel 27-2, because it reminds me of my first time.

My first was a 1917 with a barrel cut to 4 inches. I carried it on my uniform after I discovered that an N frame double speedloader pouch would hold 8 1/2 moon clips (no full moons back then). I made $100 a week at the time and 45 ACP was cheap. Further, you could carry 30 rounds instead of eighteen. I put a t grip on it and consistently fired in top scorers. That old gun would shoot. Later, I traded it off for a Model 36 to carry off duty when the dept issued model 10s and required us to carry them.

I now own a 28, 629 mountain gun, 625 45 ACP mountain gun, a 610, and lots of full moon clips. It's hard to beat a N frame as a shooter !!!!

I bought my first N frame in 1959, a near new M1917 for ( as I remember) either $24.99 or $29.99. I have had more than 100 since then (only have 5 now) and like reccpd101 I too carried one as a police Sgt. prior to my retirement in 1993. I used mine with the full moon clips and was almost as fast as the new guys with auto-loaders in reloading. Still have the one that I carried (was a M1937 Brazilian model).

I bought my 28-2, dob 1966 when I started back shooting revolvers again. It was my second revolver my first is a Colt New Service 455 that was given to me when I was a teen ager ( about 1960) . My third was an unfired Python. I liked the 28s trigger so well I sold the Python. The 28 had some finish wear but was tight as a tick. i’ll Keep it forever as it shoots better than I can.
