What was your first new-bought S&W revolver?

S&W 25-5 in 1985. I had a little money left over after college and ordered that 4” 25-5 for $237 as a graduation present to myself.

My first new S&W was a 29-2 6 1/2" . $ 289.00 out the door at Security Equipment in Honolulu. It's in my safe with the case and the shipping box. I had some loads that were equiv. to hot .44 Spl. that were a lot of fun to shoot.

My only brand new S&W was a 4" 29-3 that I bought from Security Equipment in Honolulu as well. I was working there at the time ('86-'89) but I forgot exactly what I paid for it, employee discount and all. Anyway, I actually bought it to shoot rats at a pig farm (birdshot of course) and it was deadly on the few that were dumb enough to hang around while I drew a bead on them (couldn't afford to buy any pigs I shot by mistake!).

I still have it, the original grips and the box.

I've never had a new one. Closest I got to new was my 4" 66 that was sold to some guy who shot it once and decided that it was "too much" for him, and it went back into the consignment case. I bought it about an hour later, the only thing I changed on it was the "Cheese Grater" grips. My 686-1 I bought a couple of years later had the same ridiculously sharp checkered grips and those came off instantly too. To this day, one of my pet peeves is a gun having been stippled to the point of it hurting your hands when you grip the thing. My FNH FNS-40 was a decent gun, ruined by the over the top texturing it had.

My first new Smith is a M29 Classic Hunter. Bought it in late 80’s. I even have the Shooting Times magazine that inspired me to purchase it. Will never part with either. 🙂

Mine belongs in the 1980 to present. Dec 12, 1999 342Ti 38Spl Bought it at the Big Show in Reno,NV Nasty little bugger to shoot many rounds through it.

I had a 19-1 and a 39-1 which I had purchased used but the first "new" S&W was a Model 17-? in 1982. I ordered it with a 6" barrel and the 3 T's. It was a tack driver and I put a couple thousand rounds through it. Years later I came to possess a 5 screw .22 Masterpiece in excellent shape and felt the Model 17 was no longer needed so I traded it away. Dumb move. Should have kept it.

When I bought it in 1990, it was a SB and I sent it to Mag-Na-Port in Michigan for porting and rounding the butt off.
The gun is DAO, and the trigger is smooth as glass.

In the summer of 1963 I was taken to San Francisco where I purchased uniforms for the police department I was to begin serving with the next day. On the way home we crossed the bay and stopped at George Cake company in Berkeley Ca, a police supply outlet, and I purchased handcuffs, leather gear and a shiny new S&W model 19 4” for the princely sum of $82.57. That pistol served me on the street and through innumerable PPC matches that our pistol team attended. I remained with that department through thirty years of service and upon retirement theChief hired me part time to continue my firearms instruction and range master duties. I held that position for eleven years before retiring for good.

My first S&W new was a 25-2 in 45 acp - bought it new in the early 80's - I still have my box and original receipt - I did have it factory reblued - as I foolishly brought it in from the cold and put it up on the shelf and it got all pin-pricky. I hated having it reblued, but you know, its mine and I wanted it back to factory and obviously kept the paperwork from Smith.

My first new S&W was a Model 18-2 .22 Combat Masterpiece bought in June 1965. It's been used more than any gun I've ever owned and I still shoot it on a regular basis. It was bought at a discount store in Hamden, CT for 10% off the MSRP, so it was under $70 (a significant sum for a graduate student in those days). The good news was unlimited ammo through Yale ROTC. I still have the original box, tools, and papers. Definitely a "never sell" revolver!

My wife told me in 2015 that both the gun and I had achieved Curio and Relic status - a fair observation.

My first was a 681. Bought it on closeout at Western Auto in 1986 or 1987. I think I paid $129.00 for it. I sold it to a Army buddy that was joining the Border Patrol a few years later. I wish I still had it.

Between 1961 and 2008 I didn't buy a single gun, but as retirement approached I thought I might get back into shooting, which I had enjoyed as a teenager. This 6" 629-6 was the first S&W I bought new, and I still have it. It currently sports ebony stocks by Kurac.

This was also the first S&W I ever bought, period. My teenage purchases had been a mixed lot, mostly inexpensive; I yearned for the K-38 Masterpiece that I saw in the contemporary catalogs. Since the 629 came home, I have had the good fortune to acquire a few K-38s; those and my other purchases of the last 12 years were mostly C&R specimens, but with a few antiques, a few recent (but not new) revolvers and semiautos, and a few completely new purchases mixed in. But what you see here is Gun One as far as S&Ws go, and I don't see it leaving my safe until my daughters have to settle my estate.

686+ six “ barrel. Still have it NIB. Looks so good that I never shot it. Also my first S&W of any kind.

Several years and several Smiths later. Still have them all but the others are now used but not abused.

I went for the 6-inch 686. Unfortunately, along with all short-barrelled cartridge handguns, this was banned in the UK after the Dunblane School shootings and I had to have it deactivated. It was only two years old at the time [emoji27]

How was the deactivation process implemented?
