What Was Your Rank

E-2, E-3, E-2, E-3, E-4, E-3, E-4, E-5, E-3. E-2. :)
Hey, I was busy. Punching the Major in the face was worth it.
DW

My father was the same way in WWII. He was 28 years old and hated the 19 year old 90 day wonders. He was up and down a half dozen times. But he made it all the way to Japan.

My mother, back in the Stares, out ranked him. They married after the war.

I miss him.

E-5 1967 US Army

NATO Signals Battalion. CENTAG Central Army Group Company B (Ruppertshweiler Germany)

My avatar is the pocket fob we were issued.

A nice souvenir.

I wore the same badge with a blue background when I was assigned as a Strategic Air Command (SAC) liaison officer with 4th Allied Tactical Air Force. Our main office was at Ramstein AB as part of 7th Air Division, but whenever there were NATO exercises, we went to Ruppertsweiler and worked in the CENTAG bunker. We contracted with a local gasthaus in Pirmasens for billeting and meals; I normally worked the night shift (I was a Captain/O-3 then) and breakfast in the bunker mess hall was some of the best food I ate in my entire career. The German troops that cooked in the mess hall were not cooks, they were chefs.

Army 1972-75. Sp/4.
I was a senior E-4 with two years time in grade. All I had to do was appear before the promotion board and I would have been an E-5 Sergeant. But my Mother had a stroke. I went on emergency leave and missed the board. When I got back, they asked me if I had any plans to re-up. I said No and that was the end of that.

A few altercations in "combat alley", Fayetteville NC, kept my E4 stripes in my foot-locker more often than on my sleeve.

In a meeting with my CO and platoon Sgt. once, the Capt'n said,"son, your records and good accomplishments indicate you are a sharp soldier; you think maybe you are hanging around with the wrong crowd"???

My platoon Sgt. said "beg pardon sir, but off duty, he IS the wrong crowd"!

C O gave my hind-parts a right good chewing, but I kept my rank, and never had to face him again for that kind of subject.

Seems they both musta remembered being young once, and dumb.

BTW. This thread applies to all uniforms (well not band uniforms ) LEO's are included.

Good, because I was going to ask permission first. :D

I topped out at Sergeant before I had to leave because of my Neurological probs .Now-a-days--what I was is now a CO-III. Thats akin to a full Corporal but not at Sergeants pay.

Other than that--I topped out in the Boy Scouts as a Life Scout--never went for Eagle.

Ensign 01 "90 Day Wonder" in 1982... Made Lieutenant 03 while on active duty... Early retirement as Lieutenant Commander 04 after 10 more years in the Navy Reserves, when Clinton drew down the military after the first Gulf War... My Dad was alive to see it all, and was very proud... My Old Man's gone now, so I'll speak for him... he did 2 years in the Army back in 1950... made E4 driving landing craft... got out raised a family and was the most decent person I've ever known in my life. I was and am very proud to be his son. He and my uncles were part of that greatest generation and all served their country.
