What would you consider to be the top 5, must have, S&W revolvers.............

George Patton 's RM
J. Edgar Hoover's RM
Elmer Keith's 44 Magnum
Ramiro Martinez's 38/44
Bill Jordan's Combat Magnum

Five is kind of an inconveniently small number... :o

44 Magnum 6.5"
Combat Magnum 4"
K22
22/32 Kit Gun 4" square-butt
Airweight Chief or Centennial 2"

Model 36 Snub-nose .38
Model 15 Combat Masterpiece .22
Model 18 Combat Masterpiece .38
Model 19 Combat Magnum .357
Model 28 N-Frame .44

6 - 6 1/2 inch Model 29 pre dash 3
6" Model 17
6" Model 14 No dash
Model 49 No dash
4-5 inch Model 27 No dash
4" Model 19 pre dash 3

3 down, 3 to go, got the 49, 29 and 1950's 17' and I have shot the 19 at the range and liked it.

Sidenote: I would like to give the modern ones a chance but theres one very big thing above the cylinder latch that could screw me over in a fight for my life big time thats preventing my head from saying yes but however I do like the look of the 325 thunder ranch as I've always had a thing for Matt like finishes like that and hard chrome.

M27-2, 5" (Cadillac of the S&W line, topstrap checkering declares it, superb balance, the classic Smith)
M57 no dash, 4" (very close second to M27, and I like the caliber better and this barrel length carries well. Ideal frame size for the .41 Magnum; frame too light for the .429 Magnum)
M57 no dash, 6"
M17 no dash, 6" (K22 - every S&W afficionado needs one)
M63 no dash, 4" (great gun for packing, fishing companion)

I know this was revolvers only, but here's a Smith and Wesson must-have:

M41 (thank me later - I've had mine for over 30 years and grin every time I shoot it)

My top five

I have been thinking about this a lot since this thread first started, and here are the top five of revolvers that I have that I would not want to part with. After thinking about it my top five are the ones that I use the most, not the most valuable, or rare.

65-5LS 3" My most versatile carry revolver
27-2 3 1/2" My favorite
627-5 5" The revolver I enjoy shooting the most
18-4 4" Must have a .22
629 Just couldn't decide between the 6" and the 4" MG.

Rick, I love your idea that you intend to compile the results. I am very interested in your findings. Please keep us posted.

Here's my list:

640 2" Need something to throw in a pocket from time to time
60 3" For the BBQ
66 3" For EDC when I don't want a "J" in my pocket
686 4" For the nightstand, and it's my favorite to shoot
627 6" To keep it all in the family

Mmmm... I think I see a trend with mine. Apparently, I tend to prefer stainless .357s, mostly with adjustable rear sights (all with no lock of course).

Yes, it may take me a couple of days next week to put it together but I am really interested to see what the top 5 and top 10 revolvers may been. I have had a blast with this thread and have personally read each and every one of them. Again, thanks to all that have replied.

Subject to change...but not likely...

19 p&r 2 1/2"
66 p&r 2 1/2"
27-2 3 1/2"
29-2 6"
686-2 2 1/2"

Kind of a generic S&W list but they are well known for good reason...a J frame would come up at #6!:D

Here's mine:

342 Ti for the pocket
19 P&R 2 1/2 "
66 P&R 4"
27 in 5"
29 in 4"

Looking forward to the compiled list

Regards
Bill
