What would you consider to be the top 5, must have, S&W revolvers.............

I like .38 SPL so my selection may be a little .38 heavy:

-No-dash Model 64*
-No-dash Model 67*
-Old 5" nickel-plated Model 10*
-6" Model 28-2
-A shooter-grade 4" K-frame .22 so I can hone up for cheap! Anyone wanna trade me one?

* Already got 'em!

Note: I'm flighty. Tomorrow, my list may be a little different.

Model 53 6" - unique and fun
Model 48-2 6" - affordable and accurate
model 19-2 6" - My favorite
Model 35-1 6" - see model 53 & model 48-2
Model 27-2 5" - perfect balance

Model 17 6" for plinking
Model 14 6" serious target shooting
Model 19 2 1/2" EDC
Model 27 5" Hard shooter.
Model 58 Carried it too many years not to include it.

  • Model 13/65 - 3" barrel, round-butt - Probably the best of all carry weapons, and for close-in self-protection
  • Model 28-2 - 4" barrel - The perfect utilitarian .357 magnum. No frills here, just pure revolver
  • Model 25-2 - 6.5" barrel - For pure "paper punchin'", you can't beat this revolver. From a more elegant time of target shooting.
  • Model 27-2 - 3.5" or 4" barrel - For a heavy-weight frame, and the ability to absorb the hottest .357 loads, you just can't beat it. After all, it started the "magnum" era.
  • Model 29-2 - 4" barrel - Not for hot rodders. It's a superb out-of-the-box revolver, and it's capable of taking most any deer- or larger-sized game.

My "almost made it" list included the Model 19 Model 10, Model 36, Model 49, Model 14, and Model 17 (or stainless steel variation). The K frame is superb, and so is the L, but give me the N.

5 shooters?
model 17 6" barrel
model 10 4" barrel
model 19 4" barrel
model 28 6" barrel
model 29 4"barrel
I could live quite happily with those 5. I already have three of the set and am looking at the fourth. I hope #5 is not far off ;)

5 screw 3 1/2" pre 27 own and my favorite
M 29 6" own
M 66 4" own
K-22 6"
K 38 4"

Must have 5 S&W

Well here it goes. Some S&W's I have carried starting in 1975.

Mod. 15 4" Nice balance with Tyler T grip
Mod. 14 6" Shot competition at LASO range
Mod. 66 4" Good shooter well balanced to
Mod. 29 4" Carried while hunting for many years
Mod. 27 5" Never carried on duty but is the most accurate handgun with good balance for a heavy revolver I have that will digest any 357 Mag load I shoot with great accuracy!

Carried a Colt Python 6" as a County Mountie for a while and it out shot most fellow officers duty guns at the range.

Lastly carried the Glock 22 but accuracy was only fair but still able to qualify. Maybe do to older eyes to:~))

My favorite models, which I already own, are 17 (6"), 18, 27 (3 1/2"), 29 (6 1/2"), 35 and 57 (4" unfired). All minty and original...My favorite 17 dates 1952; the 18 has diamond grips...

The one I do not have and covet is the Outdoorsman. I have located a boxed specimen in unbelievable shape and am working on its acquisition now....wish me luck!
