What would you consider to be the top 5, must have, S&W revolvers.............

Well, since you limited this to revolvers, I'd go .22lr, .38 spl., .44 spl., .45 Colt, and, though I personally don't have a revolver to shoot it out of, the .45ACP.

aaah...I've gone and answered a question that wasn't asked... too tired to fix it so I'll just say "sorry mates" and off to bed I go... pleasant dreams everyone!

No harm, no foul. You did give five options; so which five guns would you shoot that nice ammo selection out of?

29-2 4 inch
19-3 2 1/2 inch
19-3 6 inch
13-3 3 inch
547 3 inch

Oh wait. That is what I already have. Just need a nice 22 to round them out.

1. (.22 long rifle) 1957 .22 Combat Masterpiece (I hate the "Pre-" designations) - owned, Passed down from Granddad, still works just fine!

2. (.38 Spl) Model 64 DAO 4" M&P - owned (Brand new to me, just put 200 rounds through it yesterday while waiting for my daughter to get out of class. Thoroughly rekindled my love for the often maligned .38 special cartridge and the incredible S&W Double-Action trigger pull.)

3. (.44Spl) Old Style Ruger Vaquero, 7 1/2" bbl, SA .44mag - (owned, so that's what I use. I wish I'd kept a Taurus {I know, I know...} Stainless Snubby in .44 special that I used to own, I loved that gun, just didn't realize how much at the time. If I had throw-around cash today, I'd look for a 4" Model 29 to shoot .44 specials out of, but with the cost of ammunition, and the fact that I've already got a gun that will fire that caliber, I don't see that one happening.)

4. (.45 Colt) SAA clone, 4 5/8" bbl. - (owned, never could afford the real thing, but this works just fine for my purposes...sending tin-can and milk carton desperadoes to their spot on Boot Hill. My wrists won't take the recoil of the .44mag anymore, but the BOOM-push of the .44spl and .45 colt are still addictive to me.

5. (.45 ACP)...Don't have a revolver that shoots these things and honestly, I don't want one..don't have the patience or dexterity to fiddle with moon-clip thingy's all afternoon. Shooting's supposed to be relaxing, so I'll just stick with my SW1911 for this caliber and be happy about it.

Having just bought a .45 revolver (1917 Hand Ejector--civvie M1917), I have to say it's the most fun wheelgun I have. The clips are really very easy to work with--just about as easy as a speedloader--and the ease of reloading the gun itself is something to be experienced!

I get what you're saying, Shep, and don't doubt you...my opinion does come from never having used them, but understanding it's just another small, skinny piece, for me to drop, or lose, or step on, or lose my temper trying to pick up, or pinch myself with. I know myself well enough to understand how I react to inherently trouble free and well engineered parts.:):)

I understand; hopefully one of your shooting buddys will get one so you can shoot it, and they can keep up with all the 'stuff'! :)

I don't use the clips in my .45acp revolvers, I just pull the empties out with my fingers.
K-22
.38/44 Outdoorsman
P&R .44 Mag. 4" or 6.5" barrel
Model 13 3" barrel
Model 10 "beater" 3" or 4" barrel (truck/boat gun)

Wow, I can't believe I only chose 2 "N" frames. I must reconsider.

Mine's going to have a bit of a law-enforcement focus:

M&P or Model 10 4", 5", or 6" Tapered Barrel (quintessential "police special") (Mine's a 4" 10-5 pinned square butt from 1970)
Model 13-3 3" Heavy Barrel RB (just like the FBI) (Got one)
Model 37 1⅞" (can you say "detective?") (Got one)
Model 681 4" (last general issue police revolver or close to it) (Got one)
Model 686 CS-1 3" (last revolver issued to a federal agency, I think) (Not likely to have one)

Addendum:
Model 58 4" (Keith's and Jordan's "ultimate police revolver")
Model 19 4" (Jordan's baby)
Model 1917 5½" (Okay, so it's military)

Nothing with the lock. (Just sayin') Yes, I'd shoot 'em all.

This is darn hard when you think about it.
OK, here we go:
!. 1 7/8" M340PD Excellent pocket gun.
2. 4" M10 Just because every S&W collector needs one, and it's a great house gun.
3. 6" K-22 Once again, absolutely necessary to have around.
4. 4" M28-2 Great carry gun, and built like a tank.
5. 2 1/2" M66-1 One of the best carry revolvers ever made, and shoots like a target gun.

I have at least one of all of these. There are a few I had to leave off, but these will always be with me.
Jim

O.K. My 5 are: not in this order
1905 4th change 6" ( she's 92 years old)
Model 65-3 3"
Model 67 no dash 4" stainless rear sights
Model 10-8 4" Aussie Police turn in
Model 28-2, 6" (not at my F.F.L. yet
Other than the M&P the others are new to me this year.
I do want a .44, and a .45 Acp Will I get? Hopefully! Bob

This thread is going on forever!...Here's my contribution:

Model 686-5+ 4" Mtn Gun
Model 13-2 3"
Model 27-2 3 1/2"
Model 520 4" fixed sight N-frame

I own all of those...

...and oh what the heck for the fantasy portion...I'll say a 5" Registered Magnum!

It's been a real fun thread and lots of food for thought for people like me that have always had an appreciation for revolvers but not the cash flow to collect them in quantity. The original purpose was to give me some sort of idea as to what models were favorites. That way if I'm in a gun, Pawn shop or see something for sale by a private individual, I might be able to recognize if it's on the "popular" list or not. I haven't had the time to compile the information yet but I'd have to say that the top 5 REVOLVERS seem to be...... a model 36, a model 19, Model 10, Model 27/28 and a Model 66/686. Of course this is just an off the top of my head observance and arguable.

simple for me, 10-7 M&P snubby.
I own a NIB model 60 SS, a NIB 642, and my 10-7 snubbby. I would throw away in the trash both my 1980 SS NIB model 60 and my NIB 642 before I would sell my 10-7 blued snubby
