Hello, I'm new on here and would like to show some pics of a 38 that was my Grandpa's. After doing some research to locate the model number I found it to be a 10-5. I would like to know what year it was made, googling info didn't help much. Also I don't see many nickle plated with 2" barrel 10-5's so is this a rare model? Thanks to this forum I found that what I thought to be a crack isn't a crack, I attached those pics also. I would like some opinions as to the shape and possible value but I don't want to sell it. Thanks all.

I didn't find that, thanks much! My Grandpa passed in 1978 and my dad had it for years before giving it to me, dad or myself never shot it. It's been in a gun sock in a box all these years, not sure if it's ever been shot.

2D00001 to 2D80000 were serial numbers from 1977.
Not rare.
I've been out of this particular market (Model 10) for a long time, so someone else will have to suggest the value.

My 10-5 is from 1974. Just a different flavor. They shoot well for a 2" revolver. Mine is a shooter, but only paid $329 for it shipped. Bob

The 2” 10-5 is my favorite of the many iterations of the M&P.

“Value” is a subjective thing, and it varies with geography. While M&Ps in general are far from uncommon, 2” round butt versions tend to command a small premium. The two 10-5s I’ve purchased in the last couple of years cost me ~$550 each.

To me that looks to be in excellent condition. Like Frailer mentioned above, Model 10's are not uncommon but I would expect to see it priced at $500+ in my area.
Here's my wife's 10-5 from 1969/70 that I picked up as shown from a coworker for $300 probably 15 years ago.

That looks nice. I did think the value would be somewhat higher but that's ok since I don't plan on selling. It's sentimental value to me is what matters the most.
