After installing all the "toys" on the rail of my 15T, it's been leaving slight "scrapes" on the rail.

I imagine it would be considered "Flat Black"? What do you "anal" guys use to touch up the gun?

I use hi temp stove black spray paint. prep the spot with rubbing alcohol to get the oil off and lightly hit it with the paint. I also have a Bichwood/Casey Super Black flat black touch up pen for small scratches and little areas. Yeah I am anal about it. LOL

Thanks Grover
Just ordered the touch up pen ;)

I have a bottle of Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black that I'm hoping to never need. It's an acid solution, not a paint, used for scratches & such. Believe it came from Brownells.

I guess I got the same one as you STEBO?

Yeah, I misread Grover's post. I didn't realize the stuff comes in a pen, that would be more convenient for the small stuff. Mine is in a 3 oz bottle.

Or that you have redressed your rifle more than your daughter has her barbie doll!!! :D

Yeah. That's some funny stuff right there. lol

I guess on the flip side they don't call them the Barbie doll of rifles for nothin!

Danno,

I used some of my Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black today. If you haven't ordered any yet, get some. Easy to use, doesn't add anything to or change the surrounding finish, just turns the shiny aluminum scratch to black. Ten dollars well spent.

Is that the same stuff as the Super Black Flat Touch Up Pen? That's what I should be getting tomorrow.

The Aluminum Black is an acid solution - looks like water, smells like acid. I was at first concerned that it would affect the surrounding finish, but it only turns the exposéd aluminum to black. I haven't used the pen that Grover described and you ordered, but it appears to be a fine point paint pen. I'm sure it works better for other applications and vice versa. The Aluminum Black worked perfect for the very small "mistakes" I had made on my build.

Its not a fine point, but it is a paint pen and seems to hold up to usage. It was what I could find but I am wanting to try the aluminum black that you all are talking about. The best thing about this forum is we all learn together.

How does that birchwood aluminum black hold up? I was about to buy it but read 20 horrible reviews. I read that it rubs right off. Does it? I know it's "supposed" to chemically change the finish permanently like super blue. It gets very low reviews.

I'm a fan, but only used the aluminum black for a couple of small spots, and they have basically disappeared. It's a chemical reaction, so I don't see how it can easily rub off. If it did, I'd just put more on. :) The reviews are mixed, some 5 stars, some 1 star. Works one one weapon, but not the next. YMMV

The aluminum black is an acid, actually a combination of acids. Nitric, HCL and possibly Selenious Acid <--- nasty poisonous stuff.

The gloss or flat black is just a oil based marker...

Just be careful and keep it away from the kids in case they find a marker and they want to it try out.....
