What’s a Model 631 worth?

I have a good idea of what a 631 4” sells for but I’ve found on line with some issues. I would hate to see it go for a bargain but what would be a fair bid?The first problem is it has a black finish that has to be after market (ceracote?) Next, the barrel has been magna-ported with a slot on each side of the front sight. Lastly, it has some really ugly rubber grips. Otherwise is looks to be in good condition.

I’m thinking this might make a good shooter or truck gun if the price is right. So what do you think an appropriate maximum bid should be? Or is it too far gone and you would give it a pass?

You may have found a gem there. I was just reading in the 4th edition, on PG 311, about the model 631. Part of the paragraph reads "this model also found in black stainless in very scarce quantities but remains a mystery even to S&W, not cataloged". This is stated just after describing the 2" Lady Smith.

I paid $1K for this snub in April of this year. The last one of any barrel length, that I had seen in western Washington State was $1200 and up. Those seen did have box, papers, and tools. Mine shown did not.

Why would anyone cerakote a 631? On the other hand I have a 648 which someone did cerakote and it is very well done and it turns out I like it a lot. Why would anyone "magna-port" a 631? All that said, if the pictures are good and it appears well done, I would probably buy it if it is at all reasonably priced. $500 for sure. . . .maybe quite a bit more if I held it and liked it. Good luck, let us know what you do. Would love to see pictures.
