What's an accumulator vs. a collector?

I suppose I am an accumulator of firearms, pocketknives, accessories.....sometimes I will see a specific vintage leather holster and know what it fits....then, if cost is reasonable, I will buy it knowing in the back of my mind that I will seek out the model handgun which it fits....so I buy what I like and the ride has amassed some fun stuff...some may call it a collection...which I do not spend too much time myself wondering what it is that I am doing. Whatever it is, there are less interesting hobbies out there....

I collect shooters. I like 5" revolvers & have a 1st model (Triple Lock) 5" .44 Special, a 5" 2nd Model .44 Special, a 5" 3rd Model (Wolf & Klar) .44 Special and a Model 27 converted to a 5" .44 Special. Other 5"ers I have are a 1899 .32-20, a 1902 .32-20, a 5" .38 M&P and a M544 .44-40. I even have a 5" Colt Official Police in .32-20 and a Martini-Henry converted to .32-20.

A subset is my collection of .44 Specials. In addition, to the ones above, I have a Old Model Ruger Blackhawk .357 converted to .44 Special and a USFA single action .44 Special.

There are other subsets too; .357 revolvers, lever action rifles, single shot rifles, .22 rifles, rolling block rifles. And a few Civil War era rifles, both originals and replicas.

I just like guns, period. :)

Interesting discussion!

I've always sort of thought that a true collector was someone who had been around enough to say "nah.... i'm just an accumulator."

Here’s a question?.???

It’s time to thin the herd you have five pistols in the same caliber but by different manufacturers. Which ones do you get rid of? There all like new in the same price range. Deal or no deal.?

It’s like having a herd of cows which one is meat for the winter.

I am currently only addicted to S&W, Colt and Ruger, so I would trade the other two.

My first post, just signed up today. Collector or accumulator...accumulator reminds me of hoarder, so I guess I would go with collector. I buy what feels good in my hand, usually pay to much, and shoot everything I own. I deer hunt with a Arisaka WW2 Japanese rifle...with the bayonet in place just for laughs. My 1905 M&P is loaded with sim rounds and keeps the critters out of the garden. If you see a woodchuck with blue spots running around you found my neighborhood. I do have one gun that is priceless...a $50 Mossberg pump shotgun...my dad bought it for me 45 years ago. Yup, call me a collector.
