What's has been the hardest S&W for you to find

I've been keeping an eye out for a Triple Lock 4-inch, blued in .38-40 but they just don't turn up every day.

I can't seem to find a M57 locally. I have pretty much given up. Supposedly "just missed" one at a gunshow earlier this year. Guy walking around with a very nice one in the case...so I was told. Anyway, after a couple of years of looking the desire has started to fade. I did finally find a M29 that fit my specs...between that and a few .357's I don't really need a .41 mag....or do I??? I'll keep looking I s'pose.

The one I always wanted was a 627 "blood work" I knew I would never find one here in california and if I did I would not have the $2500-3000 to pay for it. Walked into the gun show in san Francisco and found this for a reasonable 1300. It is proof that god exists.

I have been searching for a 4 screw Model 17 with the 8 3/8 " barrel. I have a 17-4 & 17-5 with the long barrel, but a 4 screw would would really make my day!

I don't have to have a nickel #58, but I want one to go with my nickel #57. I currently have a 3913, two 19-5's, and two 66-2's on lay-a-way so the 58 is not a must have.

I've found it, the owner (may*) will sell it to me, but I have no idea when. It is a 98% November 1947 K-22.

*the owner wants a September 1947 K-22, has found one, BUT its owner is not ready (if ever) to sell that one. Patience is a virtue (I guess). Having been involved with Title II "toys" for 25 + years has taught me to NOT look for instant gratification re: firearms.

I don't "collect" per se, I like utility grade service revolvers like 10's, 64's, 581's, 28's,etc. Luckily holster worn or reblued examples of these aren't too hard to find. I buy the stuff "condition collectors" turn their noses up at. I saw a 6.5" 27 that had been buffed and reblued at a gun show recently for $450, if I had the cash I would have snapped that up....

For me it WAS a 581, couldn't find one for a halfway normal price for over a year, and then I fell into 2 of them.....for below $300 for each of them. Both are ex-PD guns and have just enough holster wear to put them in "affordable" range.

I also look for the formerly rarer .38 Special Ruger Service Sixes but now I have like 7 of them, since a rent-a-cop company just dumped hundreds of them on the market.

I have no use for unfired or mint NIB guns, unless they're new production.

Keep looking, they're out there!

I may be at the point where I'm not looking for much right now, I may actually start to wade through the dozens of S&W and Ruger wheelguns I've bought over the past 2 years or so and actually start shooting them for once:)

I did the same thing with rifles, I went out and bought everything I saw for years, and now 5-10 years later I'm selling off rifles I've never put a single round through because I don't even know why I bought them in the first place. I don't want to be in the same spot with wheelguns, just piling them up and never doing anything with them, so it's time for me to get more selective. I was at the point 2 years ago where I was buying anything with a cylinder that shot .38 or .357, even (gasp) bought some Taurus .38's.......forgive me!

My buying has outpaced my ability to actually enjoy them, I realized this because I found some S&W's I actually forgot that I owned, that I bought this summer on some impulse buy, and I have a pile of Rugers that I haven't even touched and I don't have a single box of .38 and .357 ammo at home right now........I fired my last half a box of .38's yesterday afternoon to try out some new sights on a GP100, so now I'm left with over 30 revolvers and not a single round to shoot through them:rolleyes: Sometimes you gotta slow down and smell the roses once in a while, I got caught up in the feverish effort to inhale every used S&W and Ruger I saw for a reasonable price and have barely enjoyed any of them. I figure I'll catch up over the summer.....Time to buy some ammo!

for me the hardest s&w to find was the s&w model 60 with a 3 inch barrel i finally found on recently at my favorite gun shop and now im saving up like a mad man to buy it.

4" 686 sans keyhole. I kinda sorta lurked/searched for a year till a no dash showed up at my LGS. The ink never dried on the price tag. I was NOT disappointed. It's now my favorite. And lets just say I paid WAAAY too soon. ;)

I have been watching for a Model 625 mountain gun in 45colt.

A 27-2 3.5 inch minty for what it is worth. I have seen a few nice ones, but they where way up there in price, not even close for me.......

SEROIUS itch at the moment for the PC 27-8 3.5" 8 shooter. Know this is a later variant than this forum deals with but you did ask. :)

ANYONE have one they'd part with?

Have cash, Smith's to trade, children and/or body parts to sell. :) (okay, you can't have my kids/grandkids, but some of my body parts may be available )

I'm always watching for a Pre-21, 1950 .44 Military 4". Had a 5" for a minute, but it just didn't satisfy !

I thought I was being realistic in looking for a 4" 67-2 or 15-6 in new-ish condition w/ box. Not so much.

I may be a bit weird but have a thing for the older model Bodyguard .38 w/o the lock.

As a kid I loved Miami Vice, and still do........so I have been looking for a blue Bodyguard just like Tubbs used in the series:)

I also need the S&W 645 and 4506 .45's that Sonny carried, to complete my Miami Vice S&W collection:D

I want it to have the same magic powers that Tubbs' gun had to, the ability to make pinpoint accurate shots out to 300 yards and to let me shoot 5 bad guys with machine guns before they can shoot me:) "Crockett!!!!.......POW POW!"

Like a few of the previous posters, I'm still looking for a really nice Model 27 with a 3 1/2" barrel that isn't through the roof. I either find them totally abused or way overpriced. I'd like to find a nice shooter for a nice price, or an absolutely mint condition revolver for a relatively fair price. I may have to lower or raise my standards.

A funny thing is that I've been running into really nice Model 28's (another favorite) at acceptable prices at every turn. I've picked up a bunch of them because I have a weakness for N-frames, but my hunt continues.

The hardest one to get is one of the easiest to find........I saw Patton's Registered Magnum in the Patton Museum outside of Ft. Knox a little over a year ago. Anyone can go see it, but there's no way to buy it!

This one. I wanted one of the first Combat Magnums and it took five years before it came my way. Paid dearly for it and would do so again. Stocks are numbered to the gun.

Nice, does it have a 6 or 10 groove backstrap?

Besides an early CM like one above ,
I would like to find a hb 4" 17-5 and a 4" 17-6 full underlug.

I'd have to say the thing I've wanted most but have only ever seen one example of ("seen" by way of a calguns classified ad) is the Model 520. Guy knew what he had and wanted to trade for something I didn't have.
