What to carry in your .380 is often debated here.

Some say hollow points for expansion.

Others say FMJ for penetration.

Some say mix the mag.

So what do you carry?

Edit: Me... FMJ.

S&W Bodyguard. Hornady Critical Defense, but my spare mag contains Gold Dots.

And you?

Carry gun is a Walther PPK.

Round in the pipe and top round in the mag = Buffalo Bore +P JHP

Next 5 rounds = Buffalo Bore +P Hard Cast.

I carry Critical Defense, PDX-1, or Gold Dot in my .380. All are of the hollow point variety and should work pretty well. I was taught to use the 2-2-2 method in a defensive situation. It works like this; 2 fired into the face, 2 fired into the groin, and 2 fired into center mass. I am told that this method will take the fight out of most anyone regardless of caliber and I believe it would.

Use Federal hydro-Shock in Ruger LCP and Glock42 . You might want check out shootingthebul410 on youtube he does some definitive testing on ammo from guns with different barrel lengths. Well done videos. Sorry I can get a link to the youtube site

My Kel-Tec is loaded with WWB FMJ flat-points. It doesn't get carried much, but if it comes out, I want the bullets to penetrate, more than I worry about them expanding. Especially out of that little tube.

When I carried a .380 regularly, it was a Colt Gov't Model, and I loaded it with 102-gr Golden Sabers. Now that it's more infrequent, I don't want to stock different ammo in that caliber.

I see all sides of the argument, but I think projectiles and fancy ammo is overblown when it comes to your everyday CCW holder. Regardless of what you use, you will be putting holes in someone. Those holes will leak. If your occupation involved a likelihood of needing to use that weapon, then I understand it a little better. Not saying you shouldn't use the best thing you can get your hands on, more that the difference between rounds is a lot less than having a gun or not.

Buffalo-Barnes 80 grain copper hollow point. I carry this in both a Sig P232 and a Walther PPK. I gave up on the little tiny guns years ago.

In t-shirt weather, hollow point. In the Atlanta winter, hollow point. If I were in Minnesota, 45acp. :)

In my LCP it's been PDX-1, Of late I have been carrying FMJ in my Glock 42.

I'm looking for Precision 1 with the Hornady HST bullet.

What's in my gun? BULLETS, they all work , from FMJ to HP , cheap or expensive... Gotta be close with a .380 so it really doesn't matter unless it's a big fat guy.. :D

I personally shot a Gold Dot from a LCP into ballistic gelatin through a quilted coat and T shirt , F. B. I. protocol , and got a four and half inch wound channel five and half long with ten and a half inches penetration . The round expanded about 6o% with 100% weight retention .

Glock42 with a mix of Hornady CD XTP, Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator and Remington Golden Sabre...
