I just don't get it (nothing new!)?
About once a week, there seems to be a thread smacking around one L/E entity or another like a Pinata? Local, state, fed no favoritism is shown. The only prerequisite is that they wear a badge. Am I missing some nearly irresistible pleasure that I should come to embrace?

Mostly sour grapes--those who run afoul of the law think they should be the exception.

I avoid such threads - never understood it myself. Gun owners who don't want to be lumped in with the very worst examples of those who abuse the privilege seem to have no problem doing the same to LEOs.

The latest one was started by a cop.

I personally feel that a discussion kept on point and civil can benefit those who participate. The subject matter is not relevant, it could be about any profession or topic. We have a great opportunity on this forum to hear the thoughts of people from all over the world and I find that to be very interesting and educational. The times when things go awry it is usually brought back in line by our members. We live in a very difficult society with many problems and it helps to discuss those issues and listen to the ideas of many different people from all walks of life.

Perhaps it could be stirred by the number of news stories, that seem to be increasing in recent years, of leos being arrested, indicted, and convicted for criminal activities. There was one on the front page of our morning paper and there have been several others. Two leo's in this tiny little county have bit the dust in the past few months, and I think one is already in prison.
There was a recent story about twenty leos from the same nearby department who had been fired for various proven and/or admitted serious offenses, that were all eventually reinstated via union trickery and legal(?) shenanigans. The details of each individual case was printed and all fell into the unbelievable category. Most should have been in jail.
The majority of people who post in these threads repeatedly indicate they believe most leos are good people and make negative comments directed only at the very few leos being discussed who do stray off the straight and narrow. Usually, after a few posts, the same leo apologists, who believe leos can do no wrong appear, and the thread degenerates to a "them" vs "us" donnybrook. If one actually reads most of what is posted with an open unbiased mind, there are darn few "cop bashers" who lump all leos into the "bad cop" category. Probably about equal to the number of leo apologists who defend any and all leo foulups.

I'll confess my world view of the teeter totter's pivot point usually is about a 60/40 towards the cops. But I guess everyone's life experience has been different? And lot's more cases now have a very vocal cross section of media and community types to guarantee them attention. And perhaps that's a good thing as well. I was just curious...
