I've been to the usualy suspects (CTD and Slickguns), and it seems that when all is said and done, its cheaper to go to scheels or Bass pro.

Anyone find any places out there that have good deals when you want to order your shells maybe 100 to 200 at a time, and not 1000?

Thx.

And how much does it save to keep brass and buy the press and reloading supplies? Would it take a year of shooting to pay for itself? Or longer?

GunBot is a good aggregation site for ammo pricing deals. Most of the listed shops are high volume and very reputable; Able Ammo, SGAmmo, Selway Armory, Trop, Natchez, Wideners, Bulk Ammo, Surplus Ammo, etc., etc.

Other good search sites are Ammoseek, Ammospy, Gun-deals.

Thank you. I bet between my father and his rifle obsession and me and my anything that goes boom, we have spent hundreds more than necessary on ammo. Scheels guys see us coming and know what size of freeby t-shirts to have ready. lol.

As to reloading, you can get into reloading for one or two pistol calibers for around $300 - $400. You could shave that some, or spend a lot more on the pricey equipment.

It costs me about $14 a hundred to load .38 spcl. 9mm is slightly cheaper. This is buying powder and primers locally, and ordering cast bullets online in quantity. Figure about an hour to load 100 unless you go to a full out progressive press.

You must be careful and do your research before you first pull the handle on a press.

It is a great hobby in itself, and can allow you shoot a lot more than buying ammo. Payback time for equipment depends on how much you shoot.

Be advised, pistol powder is hard to come by these days. The good news is a pound of most powders will load around 1500 rounds in .38 or 9mm, depending on powder, bullet and load.

I buy from Aim Surplus, SGAmmo. Palmetto State Armory sometimes has good deals and free shipping but their shipping can get long. If you don't mind waiting a week or two without word. I'm not in a rush so I don't care, nor do I bother contacting them. Sometimes my ammo arrives within 4 days, sometimes 10.

People always say that about Palmetto, but the last time I ordered from them, the ammo was at my door in 6 days. I'm sure it varies. They were a bit slow when I bought a gun from them. 8 days to ship. They have some great prices (except on 22LR) I got 6 boxes of .45 from them for $17.99-$18.99 and free shipping. They usually have some decent .357 under $24, sometimes under $20. I'm just waiting for their next free shipping event.

I can't say enough good things about sgammo. Bought from them for many years and never a problem.

They're a small company. Sometimes limited selection, but usually have nice deals on quality brands.

I'm a big Georgia Arms fan as well, but for online purchases I really like targetsportsusa.com
