I use DE safety razors and now am getting into straights, they are so much cheaper and give a much better shave.

Haven't shaved in 4 1/2 years. Simple. LOL.
+1 on Amazon.
If you're a Gillette Trac II or Atra user, Amazon has a deal for you: Amazon.com: 100 Personna Twin Pivot Plus Blades for Trac2 and Atra Razors: Beauty
That's right, $11.89 for 100, count 'em, 100 blades! That's about 10% of the normal retail price. I bought some a couple of years ago, figuring that if I only got a couple of shaves per blade, I'd still come out ahead. But guess what, they're just as good as Gillette's. I have a heavy beard, and I get 10-14 days worth of shaves per blade, just as I did with the Gillette version.
These are made by Personna, a reputable blade manufacturer. If you're old enough, you might remember their tv ads from the '60s where an attractive young Swedish woman encouraged men to "Take it all off!" with Personna blades.
Now if Amazon would only sell quality ammo for 10% of retail...
I've gone back to using an electric shaver at the moment. When I shave manually, I love the powered Gillette Fusion ProGlides. The blades are expensive, but a little maintenance will make them last forever. My current Fusion, the one with what they call the FlexBall, has about 8 or 9 months of use on the current blade. I hate shaving, so I only shave about 3 times a week. I don't have to shave everyday like some do. Before I learned how to properly maintain the blades, I bought a replacement pack of 4, for my previous powered Gillette Fusion ProGlide. I stupidly threw the old blade out and wish I hadn't. My original powered Fusion ProGlide that I got back around 2011 or 2012, has it's original blade with about 4 or 5 months of use. The "lubrication" strip has long since worn away on my blades. Unless I get overly aggressive in my shave, I get no nicks whatsoever, and I go with and against the grain.
This is what I do to maintain the blades: Before I shave, I run the blade against my arm about 15-20 times. I also cut a piece of denim off an old pair of paints about 6" long. Once a week, I would run the blade across the denim 15-20 times in one direction. Then I would turn the denim piece around and do it again in the other direction. You're basically stropping the blade. If you want to try this on your blade, and it's a bit gunked up, you may need to run it across the denim more times. When I first did it, I ran the blade across about 30 times in each direction. You will definitely see a difference in the edge of the blade. After every shave I rinse the blade with hot water, blow it off, and dry it on a towel. I also store the blade in a cabinet so it's not near the sink all the time. That's all it takes to keep those expensive blades going indefinitely. For me, I get bored of my Gillette Fusion handle before the blade needs to actually be replaced anymore. They last so long for me now, that I'll just buy a new handle when Gillette makes it look new.![]()
Same, but more like 40 1/2 years.
Just my opinion,I think it's all about the money.Three and four blades cost you more money than one or two blades.
Contact Rick from Pawn Stars. He has a real good deal for you.![]()
