Here's my criteria for "elegance":

1. Functional. Practical for its intended purpose.
2. Well-engineered and executed well in manufacture.
3. Esthetics. It's gotta be pretty.
4. When others see it, they wanta have one also!
5. Pristine. Gotta be in excellent or better shape.

For me, one of my Smiths stands out above all the others. It gets the Academy Award for Elegance for me. This is a Model 27-2, with a 3 1/2" barrel, blued, shipped in September, 1978. Target hammer and trigger, white outline rear sight, red ramp front, target stocks. I think it meets all of the above criteria.

To increase the elegance factor, it's complete with display case:

You probably have a favorite for "most elegant Smith & Wesson" in your collection. What would it be?

My collection isn't nearly as deep as that of many here. My best old piece is a 1963 vintage 28-2 that I picked up last May. It came with a set of take off Cokes and I saw no reason she shouldn't wear them...

Beautiful guns! The bluing is so rich on all those, especially the 27's.

My K22 doesn't have that level of finish but I like it's lines, and it's about as practical as they get.

Don't even have to think about this one.... I love my Model 41 but the hands-down winner would be my Model 52-2.

My 8 3/8" model 17-3 is very elegant. I don't know why they made that barrel length but it does look very nice.

Mine would be a nickled M57 four inch. It's got a fine trigger in both single and double-action. It's nearly perfect, just one little mark.
The grips are reddish with a lot of figure.
Beautiful gun that shoots beautifully too.
Makes me wish I had a barbecue to wear it to and some fancy leather to carry it in.

Old HD

Mine would have to be The 38/44. Functional:confused:never shot it #2 I think its well engineered #3 is to me #4 not sure #5 is for the age I guess

Model 14
1. Functional. Practical for its intended purpose.
It can put them all in one ragged hole.

2. Well-engineered and executed well in manufacture.
Works well, never had a mechanical issue, and it fits my hand like it was made for it.

3. Esthetics. It's gotta be pretty.
I think she's purdy.

4. When others see it, they wanta have one also!
Everyone who has ever shot it wants one.

5. Pristine. Gotta be in excellent or better shape
It's as pristine as a good shooter can be.

Model 66-3. one of 300 lew horton from the performance center. 3"s, ported, trilijon sight, trigger stop, about every enhancement on it smith makes. Smooth trigger, champherd clyinders etc, etc. If ever a smith was built for gun fighting, its this one.

My most elegant revolver would be my model 67-1. IMO it's hard to find a 4 inch revolver with better balance than a tapered barrel K frame in 38 spl. It may not be my most powerful revolver by a lot, but I can't shoot any of my other wheelguns in rapid fire as well as I can the 67.
