I once saw a video of a bobcat just trotting down a dirt road. Rattlesnake was sunning itself on the road and when the bobcat got close it rattled. The bobcat jumped about 4 feet sideways and a few steps past the snake. It turned around, killed the snake after a short battle, left it there dead and went on its way. Any creature that uses murder to cover embarrassment could definitely be classified as ornery.

I've only seen one in my life, up on the Skyline Drive, one ran in front of the car. I had hard time convincing my wife we did not need to "save it". But then she tried to give a dog biscuit to a bear once too.
For a bright girl, she can get some silly ideas in her head.
