I know Rowan & Martin's Laugh In but can't remember the sketch.

They used it a lot, along with their famous "Here Comes The Judge"

That show had people as well known as Richard Nixon and Sammy Davis Jr. lining up to get on there and act stupid.

Great show, good chance I saw most all of them back then:D

Yep, from Laugh In. You have to understand that censorship was MUCH tighter back then. They couldn't say "You bet your sweet ***!" so they substituted something that would get past th censors. It was used repeatedly and an on-going joke.

They had a joke wall where small doors would open and a player would stick his or her head out and tell a joke to another player. The wall was painted psychodelically. I'm sure bippie got used there as well.

Ach soooooo, thanks gents. I knew it from some where but couldnt remember from where? It came out of the dustbins-also known as my brain--when I read a commen someone had posted on one of the yahoo stories.

Laugh In for sure, and as for meaning, I'm not going to guess because anything I say will result in negative feedback up to and including the Ban Hammer from the Gorilla or his minions.

You have earned the "Flying Fickle Finger of Fate."

In the later years they had a goofy player (Alan Sues) that they called Big Al. My grandpa was named Albert and was not a big guy. One day my dad and his brother, my uncle, were joking around about Laugh In and the stupid things Big Al would say, they even imitated his goofy voice. I had never seen my grandpa so MAD, thinking that they were making fun of him!

They were SNL before anyone dreamed of SNL.

"Say goodnight Dick." "Goodnight Dick!"
"The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award"
"Verrrry interrrrestink!"
"One ringy dingy, two ringy dingys...have I reached the party to whom I am now speaking?"
"Sock it to me!"
