What's this saying from? and what's it referring to?

This is a saying from a comedy show from the 60's called Laugh In. Never was sure exactly what it was referring to.

Nixon saying "Sock it to ME?" was embarrassingly awful. By all accounts Nixon attempting to tell a joke was similarly dreadful. Bright man, but had the sense of humor of a mollusk.

The show was giddily silly and borderline raunchy and I loved it. Arte Johnson was my favorite cast member, as the little German soldier and Tyrone F. Horneye, he of the long black overcoat and Walnettos.

Anyone but me remember "That Was The Week That Was", aka "TW3"?

Loved that one. Consistently witty, equal-opportunity satire on current events. It spared no one.

I was 7-8 years old and in over my head but I loved that show. Arte Johnson on a tricycle and sliding up on Ruth Buzzi asking "Do you believe in the hereafter?" Actually had success with that line.

Patrick Swayzee used that line in: Next of Kin when he was going after Helen Hunt. "Do you believe in the hearafter? then you know what im hear after.":D

I always like the Farkle family, including the twins, Simon and Gar Farkle.

But the announcer was Gary Owens. Gary Owens - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gary Larson drew The Far Side.

Don't forget little Famny Farkle, "Hi!".

John Wayne in a guest appearance:
"A friend once told me to shoot first & ask questions later. I wanted to ask why, but I had to shoot him first"
