What's Your Occupation?

Used to be I was working on being a commercial pilot. Turns out flight school is expensive. It's more expensive when the operation is poorly managed and the instructors are idiots (went into a two-year program with a class of seventy-four; six years later we had three graduates).

So now I work at an airport fixed-based operation, which sells jet fuel and aviation gasoline.

Which is a polite way of saying I pass gas for a living.

Which is where I'll be for the duration until one of the gunsmithing schools I keep pestering gets me a slot.

Got my degree in Physics in 1969.
Worked for large municipal power company as a distribution engineer for 36 years and retired.
Now, I reload, shoot my .38 Special revolvers and long bows, play ham radio and work on and cruise in my small boat with my wife of 35 years.

Best,
Rick

Master Tool & Die Maker. I do dies, molds, fixtures. Have been doing this for 37 years. All of my experience is in electronics manufacturing. I plan on another 7 years of this. If I would look back on this I would have made one change. I should have become a mortician! My first regular job as a kid was working in a mortuary. Worked that for 5 years. If I did that I would be retired now and just enjoying life.

Served in Army 22 years, as armor crewman, did several other things during that time, recruiter ( not so fun), drill sergeant ( had a blast). Stationed all over,( CA, IL, KY, SC, GA, Germany twice and Korea, not to mention Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq). Retired and lucked into a job on Ft. Stewart as operations officer. Now waiting to see if we get to start working 4 day weeks for a few months, since someone cannot figure out budget.

I am the yacht skipper for "a member"of the L.A. Dodgers organization now.Been U.S. MerchantMarine since '70, been in lots of shady places, met lots of sunny beaches, #### at and hit, shot at and missed, will never retire from my real work- salvage, recovery and restoration. I have seen just about the whole pachyderm- jails, institutions and death which I attend to regularly in several countries. If I were Catholic, my patron saint would be St. Jude Thaddeus.

Cop for the past 28 years with the rank of Lt. With a Transit P.D getting ready to take an early out and go full time at my part time job and be just a patrolman at a junior college. Breath of fresh air no decisions no baby sitting, "no how do you do this" after they tell how long they have been the police.

Oh, I forgot to add that, this year, I started on a new project: I decided to learn a new language for my resolution. So, I am now about 3 months into learning Gaelige (Irish gaelic)

Always been in the machine trades since high school/vo-tech , mostly as a tool & die maker. Yes , I design and build tools , dies , machines , gizmos , gadgets , thingamajigs , whatchamacallits , etc. Did mostly in-house tool work , but did short-run work in job shops too. Even made decent money as a gunsmith for a few local shops. Worked in high performance race shops too , motorcycle and 4-wheel.

My current job title is "prototype & development machinist-1st class" , working for a worldwide defense and aerospace company.
