Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and also new to the 15-22. I'm picking up my 15-22 this week and was wondering what is everyone's favorite/best ammo for our 15-22s. I'd like a nice inexpensive target ammo and also a nice "aggressive" round for possible home protection. I've seen some chat about different brands and options but if you guys could give me your top three choices that would be great!

Thanks!
Rob

Every day sport and plinking: Federal Classic (36 gr hollow point copper plated).

Self Defense: 9mm 115 gr +P hollow point or Remington .45 185 gr Golden Saber.

For accuracy and hunting rodents I like 40gr CCI Mini Mags.
When at the range shooting steel and other plinking targets I just buy the bulk packs of 36gr fedral or winchester. My 15-22 hates every remington round i tried to feed it.

Y.M.M.V.

federal or blazers usually run well for plinking or casual target shooting for defense if you can find them aguila 60gr sub sonic snipers they have 50 percent more lead, good expansion and hit like a sledge hammer(i use these in my carry)

The gun will eat everything you feed it.
SOME guns will shoot everything you feed it. Mine doesn't like CCI Tactical, for example.
I stay cheapest copper clad bullets.
I agree there.
Remington Golden Bullets are awesome.
The OP is welcome to try them, but you'll find most posters here have not had good luck with Remingtons, Golden Bullets in particular. In fact, doesn't S&W say NOT to use them?

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like the CCI Mini Mags are a good choice. Now, if I can find any in stock...

I've shot most brands, except Remington, and have had no problems at all.
My gun is the most accurate with Winchester X...bulk 333...compared to the other brands at 50 yds.

So far...

Winchester M-22 - 400 rounds, 1 fail to load, 2 fail to fire
Remington Golden Bullet - 120 rounds, 0 failures
CCI Mini-Mag 40g CPRN - 100 rounds, 0 failures
CCI Tactical 0 40 rounds, 0 failures

Overall, .43% failure (I maintain everything on a spreadsheet)

Worried about the golden bullets with the general dislike for them on this forum. Got a box of 525 for free, so why not try them!

So far, Federal 550 has fed 100%. I have some CCI Tactical I will be trying soon.

CCI MiniMags is basicly all I shoot... once in a while Federal... and never a hicup... but you should find what's good in your rifle...

So far:

Federal American Eagle 38g HP - 300 rounds, zero failures
CCI Tactical - 325 rounds, zero failures

I like blazers. 100% reliable in my Bersa semi auto and accurate at long range in my savage target rifle.

If you plan to shoot alot, and prefer to buy the bulk packs, shoot what you can find. It's been hella-difficult finding bulk packs anywhere.

Here's what I've shot ranked in order of preferred to least preferred:

- CCI Blazer Bulk: 1000rds 0 issues
- Fed Bulk: 3k-4k rds. Very few issues 1-2per box of 500. Mostly FTF.
- Winchester Bulk: 500 rds. A few FTF FTE. Seemed dirtier than Federal
- Remington Bulk: 1000 rds. Many probs. FTF FTE. Very dirty round.

CCI tactical is about all I've had that feeds well, but to be fair i've only tried a number of other cheap rounds. I've shot Remington Golden Bullets - horrible, PMC - horrible, Winchester red X - horrible, CCI tactical -perfect always feeds and shoots tight groups. It's all or nothing with my 15-22.
