When did the 617 get the two piece barrel?

As far as I know the 617 has always been a one piece barrel. I bought my 617 new last year. It goes to the range whenever I do. It competes surprisingly well with my Model 41 and is in the running if I were somehow forced to pick my all-time favorite firearm.

Without seeing the muzzle it's hard to say, but that doesn't look like a 2 piece barrel to me. Maybe the ad copy is wrong?

That's a one piece barrel. It's poor ad copy, they should have called it a full lug barrel. It includes the front sight, but is missing the locking lug, spring and pin.

I'm pretty sure that is a one piece barrel, despite what the ad may say.

My new 617 is a one-piece barrel. Just like my L frame 686+. My K frame Models 19-9 and 66-8 are both two-piece barrels. All of them have the 4-inch barrels and my K frame 617 is the heaviest of them all.

I agree that it's a poorly worded add. I bought my 617-6 new last October and it's a 1-piece.

If you get a chance, could you measure the two-piece barrel at the thread diameter? Curious if it matches the old school .540-36 threads
