She should start feeling better...

Sigh, now she isnt eating dry. I tried but not a smidgion gone since early yesterday. I gave her some canned food. I emptied the dry stuff back into the container so its not wasted. Her food bowl is empty till I get back about 5 hrs from now. Ill try dry again to see if she eats it?

How long did it take for the insulin to start having an effect on your Coon? I THINK I see a tad of betterment for Shasta--but hard to tell? Also, it seems as if new apartment staff with passkeys--are again entering my apt when im not there--which I believe (and been proven in the past) that's causing her behavior change. Last night-she never even jumped into my lap. Shasta's really edgy. Ive complained to complex management about uninvited staffers coming into my apt when they have no business being in it. Nothing ever comes of it.

Insulin, depending on type, acts in 1/2 hour to acting over an extended time for 12 hours. The good effect should be apparent quickly. Getting the blood cleared of other products resulting from the insulin may take a few days. The REAL problem is keeping blood sugar balanced the entire time that it is given.

Im not even sure if im even getting the insulin in her half the time. Ive felt a tad of wetness on her fur once-so I know I missed that time. Shasta has thick fur and each hair is aboiut 1 & 1/2 inches long. I pinch enough of her to know im getting skin-then when I try the needle--I try to get it into her between my fingers. I THINK ive been successful at least a few times.

Yeah, that's a challenge....

I should have said her blood would be cleared of other products caused by the DIABETES like ketones and triglycerides. When you can't burn sugar your body burns fat (and itself) for fuel, which is like running fuel oil in a gas engine.

Ive been making sure she at least ate some canned food. This morning she ate a little three times this morning. I thought I had a game plan to defeat her way of eating. Most cats ive ever seen eat--mouths a hunk of food-but this cat licks. Her licking pushes the food around and it often gets on her little food-water mat. I tried a glass saucer--so at least that wouldn't move--and frustrate her when eating--but she licks the food up the side and over the rim--even if I use a bowl that has strait up sides.

Her gas engine sure burns at full speed. I THINK she might have nibbled on the dry stuff again this morning--but too hard to tell.

Ill have to get her papers on her blood work, and will post that info-to see what you may know about any of it? Its two pages long--and besides the diabetes--I THINK she is only deficient in one other area? only slightly though. I just cant think of what it is off-hand? but will try posting it all here on tues.

Sorry to hear that! Cats are sweet.

Thank you. Shasta really is a very sweet cat. Last night she was trying to be her old self again-by jumping a few times into my lap-and also laying on the top of the back of my easy chair. I noticed she is starting to purr a little again-so all that is giving me slightly more comfort.:)
