Thank you Jack, and GOD I hope she goes back to normal. If I only had about $200 extra a month? taking care of all her needs wouldn't hurt me at all. I just applied for Home Depot--Walmart-and still pestering them at MV. All unknown at this time with interviews for two done.

Keep swiingin' for the fence Carl. I don't see how a good man like you will be out there for long.

Thank you. I'm so desperate right now that anything'll do until something else comes along.

We have lots of beggars here-and every-time I see one-makes me jut out my lower jaw and be more determined. However, that's getting more difficult to do waiting ant not hearing back from any of these places.

I'm trying to also apply at Lowes and Sutherlands--but the darn sites are difficult to "read.'' I wish places would still offer paper applications-this on-line stuff is for the birds.

I don't have insurance. Id like to get some for her--but cant afford it. What companies offer pet insurance?
It's not expensive. Of course it depends on animal and breed and probably age, I don't know if they ask about previous history because I got mine when my dog was a puppy so there was no previous medical history. I pay just under $50 a month Pet Insurance | Nationwide Pet Health Insurance Plans & Reviews it was bought out by Nationwide. There are different options you can pick, from basic to most comprehensive.

And like I said before, you do have to pay 100% up front. Then you print out a form, write the policy number, pet name, your name and address and fax it in along with the vet bill. Within 30 days you'll have a check for roughly 50% of what you paid. Within a week or two you can log in and see what they covered and how much of it. I say roughly 50% because some things they cover completely, some partially and some not at all. For instance, clipping nails they don't cover, poop disposal they don't cover. I'm sure there are other things as well.

I will keep this site written down. Right now I couldn't spend even a sawbuck.

Call your local ASPCA, Women's Humane Shelter, even your vet and ask if there are programs for people in your situation. There has to be and I remember running across something like that but I didn't pay much attention to it

Carl, I am really sorry you got hit with this too, I know how much you love your Shasta. I really hope she gets better quickly. The only thing I can add is that you can try mixing water with the dry food to soften it. Sometimes cats will eat that, plus it will get more water into her which she probably needs. You can also try mixing the wet and dry together or the wet and the softened dry and see if those work as well. My older cat is on Hills RX food for bladder crystals and so I know the food is really expensive. I mix the dry and a little wet. The food made his problem go away which was a relief because they were talking surgery.

A 4 pound bag of her prescription dry food-costs $23-8 pound slightly under double that amount. The canned stuff-a case--is almost $50 for 24 cans. I THINK I can stretch out 2 cans about 3 days?????

Maybe mix a bit of wet with kibble?

One thing about regulating diabetes... intake calories need to be fairly consistent. It's the only way to determine a proper dose of insulin. When Lucy got into stuff she shouldn't (usually cat food!) she would always have a high BG that evening.

I am sorry to hear about Sasha, pets are family to and you do what has to be done for them so that they feel good.

A friend said to me once (when i told here about all my struggles) that "Angels are supposed to suffer"
I try to live up to here words :o
You do to ;)

I found one but, the one I found wants me to give her up--which im never going to do.

One great thing ive noticed since last night--she is now starting to eat her dry food again. SOMETHING must be working? and God must have intervened. Im feeling better about her situation and more hopeful. The bad thing is she's still peeing (IMO) way too much for both our comforts and she's still not sleeping on my bed.

Thank you ma'am. I do love this cat with all my heart.

The did mention wetting the dry stuff a little. I havent tried that yet but, did try mixing some canned with some dry--but the cat managed to eat only the canned stuff that was mixed. I dont know hoe she managed that? Good thing as of yesterday--I noticed she is now starting to eat dry food. I got back home late afternoon and checked her bown as usual expecting to see it untouched. Shasta ate a good amount-probably decided she was starving? I noticed this morning that some I added last night-was gone.:)
Im forced to get the Science Diet RX food--which a 4 pound bag here-is $22-8 pond about $40. I traded in the unopened bag-for a case of the wet stuff-but looks like I can get the dry again. Ill be keeping the case of wet stuff as a treat for her.

Im not sure if she had crystals? my eyesight isnt good enough to see. Ive never had the vet tell me if they ever saw any? and I cant remember if I ever thought to ask?

Speaking of surgeries. I overheard part of a conversation between one of the vets and some lady-whose dog needed somekind of surgery. It was $5,000 for the surgery-another $1,500 for x-rays and im not sure what else? That lady didnt blink an eye before whipping out a checkbook and writing one for at least $6,500. Pretty much everyone else there with me-gasped at the price.

Thankfully as of sometime yesterday--she's been eating more. I give her 2 shots a day about 7am-pm. I know shes down to maybe 4 pounds--but ill fill her bowl with more and more to get her to gain. I think she lost about 5 pounds over the last month??

Id like mixing with the cheaper stuff-but they said her UTI will come back more often if I do? Hopefully in a month or so--ill have my first checks from one of these jobs.

Thank you my friend. Shasta is family and I dont think of her as a pet--just as a child.:)

BTW, soon as financial crisis is over? ive get stuff to send your way-as well as Wayne's way.

Ringo, peeing is nature saying that her sugar level is too high. ( that is if it is too much, you know this cat)

I had a cat with diabetes and the injections are real easy to give, the hard thing is getting a good reading so you know how much insulin to give.

Good luck my friend.

Thank you-that does help. Also-I was told just to give her enough insulin-that reaches the first line. Im hoping now that shes startying to eat better-that that means its working? They told me it takes a couple weeks for I guess? the insulin to really start hel;ping.

I should have said Excess peeing in my post. Like I said you know this cat.

When our cat went on insulin it was quite noticeable the improvement in him.

He had other problems (CHF) unfortunately that is quite prevalent in Maine Coons. We gave him a much better life for the 3 months he was on insulin till the CHF won the battle. He was 9yo and about 25#s

I wish you and you cat the best! Dave

I don't have a pet, but....

Seeking ANY advice concerning diabetes--cat-related.

....

When they took samples out of her right rear leg--I never saw here flinch in so much pain--which greatly angered me and saddened me at the same time. The anger came because I saw how badly she hurt tho I know they werent intentionally hurting her. The sadness came from that she will need insulin injections 2xday.

The Lord has given me a heavy cross to carry--and I dont know how much more a load I can bear?

Does anyone else here have a pet with diabetes? The word and disease is not new to me--just having to deal with it is new to me.

Insulin needles are as fine as hairs and short. They only cause me pain occasionally. The trick is to keep moving the injection site around, but a cat may not have as large an area as I do to do that.

Sigh, now she isnt eating dry. I tried but not a smidgion gone since early yesterday. I gave her some canned food. I emptied the dry stuff back into the container so its not wasted. Her food bowl is empty till I get back about 5 hrs from now. Ill try dry again to see if she eats it?

How long did it take for the insulin to start having an effect on your Coon? I THINK I see a tad of betterment for Shasta--but hard to tell? Also, it seems as if new apartment staff with passkeys--are again entering my apt when im not there--which I believe (and been proven in the past) that's causing her behavior change. Last night-she never even jumped into my lap. Shasta's really edgy. Ive complained to complex management about uninvited staffers coming into my apt when they have no business being in it. Nothing ever comes of it.

I keep trying various places--mostly sides and spine areas. I wonder if I can give her a shot in her belly--when she got fixed to have no more kittens. After operation--much excess skin there.

About a day.

As far as people entering when your not there. In my area thats illegal unless its a emergency. Other than that they have to give you notice.

Shasta has been getting regular injections since I think last Tues evening. Ive seen very little improvement-just enough to get me an energy recharge--just not much.

They are supposed to give notice here too-but an unvetted new hire with a pass key--is only looking to steal--which has happened to me several times since I moved in. All I can say is--the one I catch in the act will greatly rue the day.
