Where are all the used TSWs

I am sorry I would NOT pay $550 for a 3rd gen smith. NEVER

I am not trying to argue just trying to keep the conversation grounded. I like the 3rd gen smiths.

Over the last year many people went out and bought rifles and pistols because of what was going on in DC. Most of those people did pay a PREMIUM, HIGH price just to own a rifle or pistol. I have no sympathy for them. BUT that does not mean that the over inflated price they payed is the actual value. That inflated VALUE was placed on the rifle or pistol due to the the bottom feeders cashing in on fear. NOW those that purchased those high priced items want to sell them.......to recoup their cash.

They are left with a few choices.....

sell at he original INFLATED price.

sell at the actual fair price before the fear.

or just keep it.

Do not justify or kid yourself into thinking it is now worth more.
Sorry, it is the truth.

Ok, you do not know what you are talking about. I have turned down offers on my 3rd gens for well over a grand each. It is not like Smith and Wesson are still making these things. A gun is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and even before your claimed fear issue raising prices 1076s were still selling in the 700-800 dollar range. The tactical models in great condition bring prices that reflect their condition. Sure you can buy beat up models and police trade ins in the 300-500 range all day every day but the new in box ones for a collector or someone wanting a NIB example can bring 2 or 3 times that amount as evident from Shorty 40s, 3913tsws and lettered 1076s bringing a grand or two.

Sure you can buy beaters for 500 all day everyday but some of these guns bring good money even today.

I take that back even Gander Mountain and Caebela's knows what is up with the third gens. They are selling beaters for the 500-750ish range so I guess the days of beater 3rd gens are gone now too. The market reflects supply and demand and the demand for all metal guns exceeds that of the poly plastic pieces that are currently on the market.

This 356 TSW was available last week. I just checked this morning and it has sold. So, here's a price data point.

I think you are confusing panic buyers with collectors & people like myself who like a specific brand & style of pistol. I am fairly new here. I lurked for quite a while before I actually joined. I came to this Forum looking for info on my first new S&W in a long time, an M&P40c. One of the first guns I saw was a 4013TSW in one of Rags galleries. I was hooked instantly. Since I've joined I've purchased nine pistols, seven of them 3RD Gens. When I first started buying them them they were readily available & reasonably priced. Now, about a year later, not so much. Not only because of the panic buying, but also because for the most part, S&W is not making them anymore, at least not for the general public. Supply & demand dictates that when something becomes rarer, the price correspondingly rises. I too am shocked at what some people demand as far as prices go. Whether it is an inflated price or not, that is the price & what people value the pistol at. I buy what I can afford & pass on the rest. I'm keeping all of mine.

+1 to James!

Today I stopped by one of the gun stores near my office. The same place where I bought a 1006 with 2mags last year for $350. They had a 4513 TSW, non-railed with 2 mags and box (the box is a factory plastic blue box, but no SN/Model sticker or paper work) for $425. A ripoff compared to the 1006, but pretty darn good otherwise.

That's sweet! I've got one just like it & I enjoy mine. Looking forward to your impressions after you get it to the range. And you got a good price, too. I've found that the magazines are hard to get. You can use the seven round magazine from a 4516, but it will stick out of the mag well a little.

From past posts I think 18DAI has most of them.....LOL

HAkron Nice 4513 wish I still had mine..... I switched to the Sig 245 a few years back..... to have after marked grips from Hogue....... and the "short" mags were hard to find..........

Congrats hAKron! You got a great deal on a superb compact 45 carry gun.

C'mon fellas, I don't own enough of these to cause a shortage. ;) Regards 18DAI

I had a chance to shoot my 4513TSW today. I was shocked at the accuracy in double action (I was hitting better in DA than in SA...I must have uncovered a flinch I didn't know I had...or maybe it's all of the revolver shooting I've been doing lately). For such a small gun the recoil is very manageable. I had to be careful shoving a magazine in too fast. I pinched the skin on my finger pretty good.

This is exactly what I am talking about.

Don't get all bent out of shape. If you do not like the idea of someone coming in here and seeing it from another point of view that may injure your "my guns are worth what that schmo offered me...so its has to be worth that much" then to bad.

Your words "beater" is just that and everybody that was prepared and not a collector before all this mess took place looking at them knows they are just that.

Yes, to collectors they will be worth what the COLLECTOR is willing to pay.

Like I said, I like 3rd gen smiths they are some of the best stuff Smith ever put out. My local gun store has two 5906's at $399 in excellent condition with two magazines each with the original boxes. Priced any higher and they will not move off the shelf. They have been there since January:rolleyes:.

Congratulations!!!....about the shooting in DA:) wow and with a .45 too. I truthfully struggle with it and my model 457. Practice and practice some more.

Yeah, in SA (and it's got a nice light SA pull too, and the short reset that is common to all S&W semi-autos) I was hitting a few inches low and to the right (I'm a lefty), buy in DA most shots in and around the bullseye. Either way, still very nice groups...it shoots far better than I do.

I have no concern what value a gun has to anyone other than me. I don't buy them to impress anyone, I buy them because I want them.:D

I read these things are a bit heavy loaded, but have no experience whatsoever with them. I have been looking at one, though. Talk me into buying it. I like revolvers.

:) Then you should stick with revolvers and that leaves more of these gems out here for us! They are fabulous though and once owned you're hooked

Depends on the gun, most TSWs will bring money still and if they are NIB then they bring more money. I'm not trying to make you hate even more on them than you are but NICE examples for 300-600 dollar range is a thing of the past. I have a NIB 3913TSW and while I never will sell it there is not a doubt in my mine that if I went to GB or GA it could and would bring 1000-1200 dollars. Some one out there would buy it for that much. They are that hard to find and I have looked at a lot of them from time to time and even rough ones still bring your 300-500 dollar range. So, there are examples out there for that much just do not expect to have a perfect gun.
