I have been on the hunt for a 16 gauge double barrel for some time now.
I have been looking for a European or Italian made gun, but have decided that I am not willing to cough up that kind of money for a field gun.
So decided that I would try a Browning Citori. Now that I have figured out what the market is on them, I am ready to buy.
Over the last couple weeks they have simply disappeared off the online auction sites. Neither GB or Guns International have one available.
I have never seen them or any gun just disappear off the auction sites.
Anyone have an idea what the heck happened?

One idea would be "Buy it now". Another is, with the upcoming change in gun policies the owners changed their minds (they thought the prices would skyrocket and they didn't).

I enjoy the 16 gauge myself, currently have a riot-style pump action and an old but reliable 'J.C. Higgins' (Sears) bolt action bird gun, and have been on the lookout for a double-barrel for a while now. Last I saw was an old Ithaca; haven't seen a Browning 16 double in probably over a year now. Best of luck with the search, let us know how it goes!

I would guess hunting seasons opened or about to open or possible xmas present time. Nothing like a gun for xmas present.

My brother has a sweet sixteen single shot break open breech that truly is one sweet shotgun. I asked what happened to that gun since the last time I saw it was back in the early sixties. He said he still has it stored somewhere.

I think there is a website called 16ga.com or something. You may want to start there. Good luck and also give shotgunworld.com a try.

They seem to produce the 16ga Citori in batches about once a year or even a bit less (at least for the USA market). Once the current production is gone for that time, that's it. The word gets around that 'there are to be no more' and the run on them begins and they disappear from the distributors and dealers.
People that never considered a 16ga all of a sudden just absolutely have to have one. Sounds familiar....
Then without much fanfare the gauge is re-introduced and a new batch is made with some newly named Models and a few changes. Usually a price hike.,,and the same thing goes around again a year+ or so later.

I liked the post above where the guys brother says he's got it stored somewhere. That could be me. Still got nearly everything, but don't have a clue where.

What is your price range ? The Dickinson sxs that Cabelas carries may be an option.

Murphy law. Whenever I get the desire for a specific gun they are not to be found.

I've owned quite a few Browning OU's. An Italian fits better.

Try Michael Murphys, spelling, it in Ks. They have a huge assortment if very nice guns. Been there. You Wil like getting in their Web site. One might try Cabelas but they are very pricey.
