Where do you buy Ammo????

If it's not from my LGS, I buy from SGAmmo or Outdoor Limited. Outdoor Limited would probably have the best shipping cost for your location.

I always use AmmoSeek to find the best prices. I buy ammo from Target Sports, Outdoor Limited, SGAmmo, Alamo Ammo, AmmoMen, and Surplus Ammo. Haven't had any issues with any of them. I've also purchased from Bud's Gun Shop, but they tend to be a little careless with the way they pack it.

SGAmmo.
Reliable packing, prompt delivery.
They repack in a plain box, that if left at your door does not scream "AMMO" at your neighbors. I live in an apartment, so that is critical to me.
They do an email with latest deals / arrivals. If they don't have it in stock, keep checking back. Things change daily.

Thanks for this information....did not even know they were there...sadly a check of their offering does not show Federal HST 230gr for 45. Only show hydra-shock in +p. But I will keep checking....thanks again

Glad to help a neighbor out. I promise you'll love doing business there.

If you go back to their site and this time click over on the upper right to include out of stock items, you'll see they're usually available at $25/box. If you click on the item, you can have them email you when they're back in stock. You can also give them a call to check when they expect the next shipment.

If all prices are equal, I think SGAmmo is my first option. Targetsportsusa is probably next... they have free shipping on cases. Maybe not quite the selection of SGAmmo, and shipping is higher otherwise.

Others I have bought from, depending on best price available:

Bud's- shipping isn't bad, and sometimes they have the price that beats everyone else. I WILL point out, when I bought a couple of cases of Yavex 9mm on clearance (under 18 cents a rd when other ammo was higher), all they did was slap a shipping label on the Yavex box. They did put the Fiocchi .32 acp into another box.

Selway- they also have had good prices, and sometimes offer free shipping over $200. One of my boxes came beat to heck and back, but that's on Fedex or UPS, I guess.

Aim Surplus- recently they had PPU on deep discount, which made their shipping worthwhile.

Sportsmen's Outdoor Unlimited (or something like that)- I bought some ammo from them at a good price once. I went back later to look for some more, and they didn't list ammo and their shipping had changed.

Sportsmen's Guide- they used to be very competitive in prices for ammo, and if you also got a deal on some of the other stuff (boots, "surplus" unused socks and shirts, etc), it was definitely worthwhile. They seem to have gone up in price considerably now.

Call them, ask for David and tell him one of his good HP customers (Jeff) was beating the bushes to help his business. I tell everyone to buy there because I want to see him do well and continue being such a great supplier. Ask him when he'll be back in stock.

By the way, I'm just down at the other end of 66 from you. Where do you shoot?

Will do..!!! Usually shoot at Calibers off West Market or the range in Horneytown.

I just wanted to share a little tip that might help, as I have the same concerns as you. If you get a UPS account, you can update delivery options so they'll hold it at a UPS facility for pick-up, if there's one convenient to you, instead of delivering it to your door. I do that so I don't have to worry about ammo being left on my doorstep.

While I mostly 'roll my own', two lawyers I know well and trust agree with M. Ayoob that one is foolish to EDC handloads.

My EDC is loaded with "Tim's best" avalible direct from Buffalo Bore, or Cabelas, or some LGSs. Chrony the stuff, consistant, consistant, consistant.

I have not bought ammo in over 30 years. Except for 22. Don't know why anyone would. I suppose 9mm and 223 is pretty cheap, but just about anything else is going to be half the price or less if you reload. Its the only way to if you are shooting outside of the most popular cartridges. Look up the price of 505 Gibbs ammo. Makes reloading equipment look pretty cheap.

Overall, I've found the best prices on cases at Target Sports USA. I've since joined their club which sells at cost and no shipping, ever. They do offer an over box for no charge.

I've bought from many places. When I lived close to STL I mostly used Dunno and later Cabelas.

I've found good buys at some LGS's.

When I find a good buy I will buy lots of it.

I once stopped by a hardware store to get something. It is off I 70 south of the airport.

There were lots of old deer, antelope and fish mounts on the wall. Several older generation owners were sportsmen.

I saw some gun stuff like oil and minor items. All pretty old. At the end of the Isle was a small selection of Remington ammo. There were 270, o6, 308 and 7mm08. There were 10 boxes of 7mm08, marked about 13 dollars a box. The yellow end flaps facing the sun had bleached out to a pale white. I bought all of them. The same ammo at Cabelas was about 26 dollars.

They had a bunch of 22 ammo but I did not buy any.

Within a week or so all ammo had dried up. I went back there to get the 22 lr ammo. It and all other ammo was gone.
