Where Has Our Ammo Gone?

I am guilty of burning 500 to 1000 rounds per range trip. Mostly 45 ACP. BUT I dont shoot every week or even 1 time a month now that ammo has gotten so expensive. I keep a certain amount on hand i will never be without. Now a couple years ago my friend and I went once a month and burned up lots of ammo 500 to 1000 each. We have a good time when we go. I don,t vacation at the beach or any where. A long weekend few times a year to 4 wheel atv's and jeeps. My vac is a trip to the range. If I burn a couple hundred bucks so be it. It is what I chose to do for fun. I do not complain about the ammo shortage. I dont buy from scalpers. I get what I can at walmart and such places when they have it. I sell ammo to my friends and share with them when I have plenty and do not make a dime. I even buy with them in mind if I run across what they need. Maybe I am part of the problem now If I find ammo at walmart I buy all I can afford or all they have. I buy to shoot not resale. I am buying and shooting mor 22 LR than ever. I used to buy my ammo after a trip to the range so the price is not fresh on my mind like it would be if I stopped on my way to the range or the day before. I find myself checking my supply and taking what I think I can spare. I stopped reloading some years back because of the increases in reloading supplies. Shot mostly rifles then. The price of reloading seemed as tho it doubled in just a few short years. Thinking about getting back into it now. My kids are out of the house and I have more time. Hate to buy all that stuff again. I had all Dillon and could reload all major calibers. Donated almost all my stuff to a disabled friend to keep him occupied but have lost touch with him over the years.
Almost cut my trigger finger off today at work so I wont be shooting for fun for a while.

But I plan to keep buying ammo when I can find it need to start building a good supply of brass.

Sorry about your finger.

One of the good things about all the new shooters is that they leave all their spent, brand new brass on the floor of the area's WMA shooting range.

Danged litterbugs! God Bless Em!

Yea I used to Always get a kick out of cleanning up my spent cases and giving them to someone. It really seem to make their day. I had a fellow get mad at me one day He asked if I was going to keep my empties They were in a trash bag outdoor range. I said no he said mind if I take them I said they are no good as I handed him the bag. He says they are to me I sell them as he walked away. He looked in the bag as he was getting in his car and realized my friend and I had burned up more than a 1000 Wolf 45 and 40 cal. He thru the bag down called us A**holes Got in his car and left.

I never bothered to ask, but I thought it was his growing inventory of S&W revolvers...

I've always gathered brass at the range(s) I frequent...the calibers I reload.

Now-a-days I pick it all up...even 9mm and 40 S&W which I do not reload. I'm sorting, cleaning and stashing all of it...if I don't need it, I'll trade for calibers I do need.

I'm scrounging the cheap stuff...Wolf primers ($80-85/5k), used brass, bullets/primers/powder in bulk or at local (small) gunshows, garage sales or the like.

I'm glad I had a nice stash of .22 prior to this mess...I can't reload them.

I've always picked up clean, once-fired appearing brass, even if I don't (currently) reload it. You never know, you may inherit or trade into something, and if you never do, brass doesn't take up much room in the basement anyway.
