I have an M&P 15 PC pictured below. I would like to explore the possibility of attaching an aimpoint red dot from Larue for quick detachment. I would like to keep the rifle as is with the current scope and Troy folding sights.

The forearm tube is a Yankee Hill free float. I have added (tapped and drilled) myself 1/4" rails on the sides and bottom of the forearm. I could use one of these or drill and tap another spot on the forearm for attachment. Also, could put a co-witnessed rail from the flat-top. However, I believe I would have to remove the fore end because the gas tube is directly below that part of the forearm.

What options do you suggest?

Thanks for your response. However, I am trying to leave the Leupold AR scope in place and use an angled quick release mount for the aimpoint at a 45 degree (approximately) to the scope. There is not enough picatinney rail left on the upper to attach any offset aimpoint mounting option.

Co-mounting a red dot over the scope is an option.
You may find a combo that fits your scope & rings??

Not something I would use. The 15 PC is not a CQB stick. If the rabbit gets that close,, he owns you.. :D

Thanks JJ BPK. Your point is well taken and makes very good sense.

Guess I will have to get new M&P with a shorter barrel.

Who makes the scope ring mounts for a secondary sight application in the pictures above?

I appreciate all the thoughts and options you guys suggest.

Use your google-foo "little red dot scope". I don't know if Aimpoint has their own mount for the T-1/H-1 or outfits like LaRue have after market.

As I stated, I am not a fan of over burden on a weapon. So I woun't express an opinion of who is better.

I will say that some of the current mini red dots were developed for pistols. So they have a fair amount of history.
