Decided that I needed to download one of the gas price apps for our next visit, but unsure which one to get.

Somehow I had Gas Buddy in the back of my mind but it is not coming up in my App Store.

Any suggestions?

GasBuddy works for me. AFAIK it is the only app that will get you the info you are looking for.

Maybe you can get it in the app store once you get to the USA?

In the meantime, maybe you can try turning off your phone's location services (GPS) and then try to access the app store, and see if that gets you access to the GasBuddy app?

Just a thought....

Brent,

We always use iExit - Just a moment...

It requires the activation of "Location Services" in your iPhone, but then it tracks where you are (we usually always use the Interstate) and provides the following information for the next Exit coming up:

1. Gas Stations by brand and price, distance from the Exit

2. Food/Restaurants

3. Hotels

4. It looks like Hospitals-Medical Services

5. Distances to the next exits, etc

Like a good navigation tool, after you pass the exit, the next one comes up on the screen.

Cheers! Safe Travels, too!

Bill

iExit is only for Interstates. IIRC, Kiwi is planning a trip on Rt. 66, which is not all on Interstates now. Most, but not all. Gas Buddy works anywhere, and you might need to be here before you can install it.

Gas Buiddy

My Gas Buddy shows Brand, Price and will give directions to the station, also offers a way to save on the price per gallon, haven't decided whether to sign up for that yet.

I expect he'll have a rental, so it really won't matter.

Additionally, most if not all gas comes from the same tank farms no matter what the brand on the station is.

I know about the swapping of gas, but I like to think I am getting what I ask for.

Also, top tier detergents are added at the time of delivery to the gas station

Yup, the tanks at the farm aren't segregated by brand. I've read that some put their own additives - like detergents - into the tanker trucks, but that is a really minor difference.

I'm convinced the biggest difference from one station to the next is how well the maintain their facilities and equipment. For example how often do they have the condensation water and sludge pumped out of the bottom of their tanks, how often do they service the pumps & change the filters, that kind of stuff.

I used to have to maintain private pumping stations (a.k.a. fuel islands) at the company I worked for. About half of our facilities had their own fuel islands. We always went above and beyond the minimum requirements and recommendations on maintenance. A lot more than the gas stations around here do.
