Which of these three handguns would you CC?

Been carrying my 640-1 since they first came out.

The 3913. I've had both a 3913 and 3914. Not really my thing, since I don't like single stack 9mms all that well, but eh. If you had a Commander size 1911, that'd win, but I simply don't trust 1911s once they get smaller than a Commander size gun.

I chose the 3913....years ago....and have never regretted it.

Light weight, better capacity than your other choices, low maintenance, extreme reliability, flat, easily concealed, perfect size, for me.

Probably the best 9mm single stack carry gun out there. Definitely the nicest pistol S&W ever did, IMO of course. Regards 18DAI.

640 all the way. The .357 is the better man stopper than the .45 and it is idiot proof when under extreme stress (fine motor skills go away then).

First choice would be the 640 because of its reliability. Second choice would be the Colt because of its stopping power. I'm a big 1911 fan, but I'm not sure about the reliability of the short slide models.

The Colt first and 640 second.

If you don't carry a 1911 style handgun and practice with it regularly, stay away from it. I see too many people at the range who draw and pull the trigger only to realize that the safety is still engaged. Having that happen in a real world situation and you've just eliminated any elements of speed and surprise.........stick with one type you are familiar with and leave it at that...........just a thought.

I'm lukewarm to cold on 1911's. Of the other two, it would be whichever would fit in the pocket of the pants I'm wearing at the time.

I'd probably carry the Colt, if that "performs flawlessly" applies to some reasonable number of rounds. Why? Because for me it would probably be the most accurate, and carries a few more rounds than the revolver, and is thinner. I don't think the 3913 fits my hand well.

You need a backup, probably in an ankle holster. Put some Magnas and a Tyler on that 640, if you need to, and load it up with whatever you shoot well.

Hi
I would be wary of the 3" 1911 as it requires a strong set of arms to provide enough resistance to the recoil for it to function reliably. I can qualify this because I carried an Officer's ACP in .45 for a while and had failure to feed problems because I wasn't able to hold it well enough to allow the action to cycle properly. It will also not balance as well in your hand as the 3913 should. It's bottom heavy and weight is not as well distributed as a Commander or Gov't model.

I would carry the 3913 first. It's a reliable platform and with good bullet placement will serve you well. I now carry a 39-2 clone in a Bianchi 3s IWB and am very happy with it. 9 hits with a 9mm are better than 1 or 2 with a .45 that might or might not work in a stressful situation.

If you choose the revolver buy two and use the 'New York reload' method. I would rather go this route if I were hesitant of the other two choices.

Hope you try all three extensively and make a sound decision according to your needs and abilities.

I like the 640. I carry a 638 everyday around the house first round shotshells for snakes. I stoke it with Corbons when I go out or carry my PM9 or Kimber CDP Pro.

I'd opt for the revolver. Good knock down with the 357 and its going to go bang every time the trigger is pulled until it runs out of bulletts and its DA... I just dont like carrying 1911's concealed witht the safety on and the hammar cocked. I know nothing about the other gun. But revolvers do it for me...

I have a first year 640 no-dash, and that is my primary concealed carry handgun. Autos are nice, and I have several (large and small capacity), but I'm a revolver guy at heart so the 640 is my pick because it is so easy to pack.
