Which revolver is next to be de-locked?

I'd be pretty happy to see the Model 66 and Model 27 next up on the lock chopping block. Bonus points if they offer the no-lock 27 with either a 5" or 3.5" barrel and the Model 66 in a snub configuration!

Has anyone said they even wanted the lock ? They had to spend a lot of money putting the lock in the guns. Now they're going to charge around $100 extra to do away with the lock. They should be a little cheaper with less parts needed. that's just me, or Am I wrong, Clifford..

It's a matter of tooling and production processes, which have been constant for IL guns for the past 20 years. Building ones without the lock in smaller volumes costs more. Perhaps the no-lock guns will become standard and the IL guns more expensive. ;)

murphydog. Yes that would be great. How about the M617 with no lock, and half lug barrel, 4 and 6 inch barrel, I like both..

I would expect the scadium frame guns will have the locked deleted from production pretty fast, since many of the unintended lock-ups reported have been with the 329.

Then S&W can expand the scandium line to .41 magnum, .45 ACP, 10mm, etc.

And right after that a scandium k frame .327 Fed.

I would expect they just pick a date and stop making internal lock guns on everything made after a certain date? Or they wait for each model to sell out at distributors?

Many here have waited 20 plus years to buy a new S&W revolver with a lock, and we can wait another 20, so don’t test us.

Get rid of the storage lock - it is like adding a combination lock to a fire extinguisher.

I would vote for a fixed sight, 3" K frame .357, easily made with slight modifications from the 2.75" model 66-8. The older versions are highly sought after so a new version might sell really well.

This is the answer!!! Exactly what I came here to say. 3 inch 13 or 65 no lock? Sign me up!!!

I was just telling someone this but the Rossi RP63 comes in blued/black now and every time I see it I automatically think Model 13. It really reminds me of the 13, only with a full underlug. Oddly I don't think Model 65 when I see the stainless version.

I heard that the 4.25 inch barrel is so S&W can sell them in Canada.

That was probably also the reason why the M&P got a 4.22-4.25" barrel (S&W has used both figures in different places) instead of the 4.0" barrel that the 5900s had.

That is correct. Canada passed a law requiring a minimum of 105mm (4.13386") for handguns in 1995, so U.S. handgun manufacturers switched from producing pistols and revolvers with 4 inch barrels to 4.25 inch (107.9mm) barrels. Then in late 2022 Canada banned the sale and transfer of all handguns, so I really think it is now a moot point.
