Everyone knows about Doug Wesson's famous 1935 hunts in which he used a then-new 357 Magnum to take moose, griz, antelope, etc. I've always wondered, though - who was with him on these trips? Who were the guides? Any locals along and, if so, who were they? I've never been able to find any info on these other people - maybe you experts know?

One of his hunting guides, in Maine , was Ira McKay. I know this
because, in 1921, he presented him with an engraved .38 M&P target.

I also know that, in the 1930's, he spent time with Ed McGivern, in
Montana, watching him perform his rapid-firing demonstrations.

Later, Mike Priwer

In a book I purchased many years ago titled "PIONEERING HANDGUN HUNTING" by Al Goerg page 1 begins with "Experiments".Here he refers to correspondence with Colonel Wesson regarding his hunting with the .357.Colonel Wesson mentions a friend (no name given) at the Campfire Club who had a ranch in Montana and invited him out to hunt game. They hunted antelope on the Gray Bull River not far from Cody Wyoming.Next they hunted elk at Terrace Mountain not far from Jackson Hole Wyoming.Next was Turpin Meadows for moose. The following year he went to British Columbia where he took a moose to use as bait for a grizzly bear hunt.Success soon followed. The following year he went to Alaska with Father Hubbard the glacier priest to hunt brown bear.He takes two revolvers for the unsuccessful brown bear hunt.He does take a walrus on the Bering sea. Hope this fills the gap.

That's great information. Thanks. Having grown up in that part of the country, near the Pitchfork Ranch and the Greybull and Wood Rivers, it's fun to see that those gentlemen spent time in that area as well.
