Have had 3 over last 63 years. Still have last one.
First one in 1957. Bought it from a gunsmith that converted it to center fire K-hornet. Bought it for groundhogs. shot as small as 3 inch group at 100 yard. I think the gun would have done better but even 17 year old eyes and hands could not do that all the time.
Sold it because I became a little afraid of the 2 ft diameter ball of flame out of cylinder gap in broad daylight and shooting it over top of car chipped a line of paint off.
Second one in 70's. Kept it for years and taught my 2 kids to shoot with it. Don't even know why I got rid of it, stupid.
Finally bought last one 5-10 years ago (made in 1960) for my wife as she would not give up my model 14 38 and I love shooting that gun.
Now both 17 and 14 (made in 1949, year I stared high school) are are "target" model with target trigger and hammer. Going to have to pry both out of my cold dead fingers.
I know! I added this K22 (shipped 1/53) last month. It joins my 17-4 and 617-6, K22 CM (and the 22/32 HFT, Mod 34-1 and 63-1). This one now has the finest trigger of all of them, It only needed a little help.
Quick question? What did you do to get such a great trigger? Is this a Smith&Wesson custom shop job? Or did you work on it yourself? Have a 1980s 17-? That could use some love. Have been debating sending it to Smith &Wesson for a few years, always find something else to buy instead of taking the time. Thank you in advance, Jared
S&W Model 17s and 18s are the cream of the crop as far as quality .22 caliber revolvers are concerned.
Here's a couple of mine. I call them grandpa and grandson...
