The quality of the contributions and the rigorous moderation, not to mention the appeal of the titular product, of this forum has made the ubiquitous social medium secondary to me.

As a creature of habit, I used to check email, the social media website, then other firearm related sites. Now I find my routine becoming email, this forum, then other places.

Are there any others for whom this forum has supplanted other places for screen time? Of course, I realize there are many who eschew social media assiduously. Spending many years on a college campus led me to be an early adopter in order to keep in contact with students.

I'm pretty much of a regular here every day. I closed and deleted Facebook years ago when somebody hacked my account and tried to use it to spread a virus. Somebody must have said some unkind things about me but bless him, my cousin-in-law came to my defense and said there was no way I would be fooling around on Facebook when I was at work. I still have LinkedIn but only look at it when I get a prompt.

Like Rustyt1953 and CajunBass, I save the best for last. After I've read the world and local news (I don't watch any broadcast news--I read it so I can select what's important) I do check Farcebook--I know how I spelled it--because it's my principal and sometimes only way of staying in touch with some people. Then I come here, at least twice a day, the last time late in the evening. It helps me get over the news and Farcebook.

You can see from my stats that I spend more time here than any site. I spend a lot of time answering emails or originating my own. I usually check some of the news.

I spend a fair amount of time on Youtube, often when eating or occupied some gun or history vid. I do indulge in a little worthless trash for easy watching.

I spend about .01 per cent of my time on Facebook, only if there is something special I was asked to look at.

Lately I've spent more time on Quora, which was a goo site but is now attracting way too many trolls.

I Google a LOT because my wife and I are curious. Whenever we watch old TV I have a computer handy to look up movies, actors, etc. Watching old shows on Metv is perfect for this.

I Google guns and shooting a lot. I can't seem to get enough of old, military, foreign gun designs and cartridges.

My sesquipedalian ( ˌseskwəpəˈdālyən: characterized by long words; long-winded.) tendencies get the better of me when trying to say a lot in a few words. That works only if the same vocabulary is shared, otherwise one simply sounds pedantic (pəˈdan(t)ik: excessively concerned with minor details and rules or with displaying academic learning.)

This year when I was renewing my membership I started thinking about the subject of this thread. I do not have cable, no Netflix, no magazine subscriptions, no premium web services, and I spend a good deal of time here. I decided to bump up my membership level from Bronze to Silver because I like this place and the interactions that go on here. I feel no more or less loved here now than when I was not supporting the site with my small contributions. I just hope a few bucks helps the place continue what it does.
