Dear S&W experts,

I am a long time fan of S&W and currently own and shoot a 625 jm, 629 4" mountain gun and a M&P pro (9mm).

There has been a PPC revival in my neck of the woods, the Far East (Singapore) and I'm on the look out for a brand new PPC revolver as my older 686-3 with the 3 position sight was sold on a while ago.

who would you recommend to build me a proper 6" stainless bobbed beauty with an aristocrat dual use high guard rib in .357mag please?

many thanks for the advice, guy(TM)

ps Preferably a smith with FFL and export experience. :)

"precision pistol competition ( evolved from police pistol combat)
"Precision Pistol Competition" is the official name used today by World Association PPC 1500 (WA1500), the international sanctioning body.

PPC is often associated with a particular style of a revolver having a heavy barrel and a prominent sight rib. This is not the only type of firearm used in PPC competition, but some manufacturers used PPC as part of the model name for such guns and the name stuck"

from wikipedia... I shot it years ago and now am thinking of making a comeback just for the heck of it. :)
All my mates are using pistols here and i am a revolver guy, so i need a new wheelgun! :) .

cheers, guy(tm)

S&W Model 19 Combat Magnum

"Back in the day" when I shoot PPC, many of the shooters used the Model 19 4 & 6" Combat Magnums. This is a great gun and many of the shooters would send off their 19's to have work done to their needs. I used a 6" Python. Getting back to your question, If you could find a new or used Model 19 and have it worked to your specs. you would have a great combat gun. I forgot to menschen most shooters shot 38 special in their magnums. Good Luck, Good Shooting. Hank

Clarks' Custom Guns or something similiar in Louisana.

Miculek married into the Clark family. They have the knowledge and expertise to make a PPC gun that would please the best of the best. I believe that they are in Princeton Louisiana. Goggle 'em, and info should pop up.

Ditto. I know some folks who have gotten new PPC guns from them and hey report hem being exceptionally good.

Our old departmental pistol team had agency supplied Model 14 that were reworked by the range guys. Many had the BoMar rib along w/many other enhancements. My personally owned M14-4 is pretty stock w/the exception of a double action "combat" trigger job along w/a bobbed hammer.

PPC is still heavily contented in the Michigan area and the leading pistol builder there is Brush Creek ltd. Call Joe, he would be happy to work with you.

TheBrushCreekLTD.Com

That's who I was going to mention. I have one of his guns, I think it is one of the best that I have seen or shot. And I have seen some nice Davis guns in my time.

Back in the old days, most of our guys that shot in open competitions used tuned Pythons or Model 10s with heavy 6" barrels -usually custom- with slick action jobs and a Bo-Mar rib.

Inter department competitions were shot with 4" service revolvers, 28s or original Troopers.

One guy did rather well at opens with his 4" 28.

I have a friend that made a PPC gun in 44 magnum, looks like a truck axel foe a barrel. But boy howdy does it shoot. Local gun show had a PPC gun made on a Colt Trooper III with heavy bbl and aristocrat sight rib. Asking price was $700. Wonder what he was smoking. Think Clark Custom Guns does some PPC guns on the model 10. So maybe pick up a gently used model 10 and have at it as it already comes in 38 special. Frank

I would keep your eye out for a nice used one
You can pick up a used one for a fraction of the cost of a new one
Shooting them doesn't hurt them one bit
I have a Bill Davis gun I picked up used and other than a little finish wear it is amazing/outstanding
