Had one since college. Almost 2 decades now. Mine came with the pachymar grips.

It's almost as clean as these, but I put some rounds through her about once a month or so.

I'll see if I can't dig up a pic somewhere.

Mine came from the San Antonia Park Police. Has been shot quite a bit, but still has a LOT of life left in it. It's a dash 3 as well and you don't see the 2's and 3's very often. Tight as a tick and smooth as silk with the Wolff Type 2 spring package.

Nice find. Over the years I've had both 581 & 681s. They equally shot well and as for looks, just something about a fixed sight Smith! Matter of fact, I picked up a 10-8 Friday. Local was just wanting rid of it and I had a few $ left over from Christmas, perfect combination, lol!

Here's Mine, a 681 no dash, no M

I found mine recently in a LGS. It's a 681 no dash and no M. It's in great condition. I've only had it to the range one time, but Wow, I was elated with my groups. Here's a few pics. Since the pics, I have put on factory Target stocks from the same 1982 vintage as the gun.

681-2 no M stamp

Picked this one up last year was wearing a set of Goodyears. Owner said he had original grips that he would send my way once he found them. haven't heard back from him yet.Placed a set of grips I refinished and looks good to me.

Here's my only 681. It's one of the 681-1 CAI imports I picked up at a great price. I bought it as a shooter and it is a good one. I had Revolver Armorer over in Suffolk, VA bead blast it and do a trigger job on it.

I carry one fairly regularly. It's stamped "G.C.C.I." for Gwinnett County Correctional Institution, presumably. I just realized I only had one picture of it, heh.

Does anyone have a clue about how many of these were/may have been sold to the general public? Mine is marked S.A.P.R. and I don't plan to remove it, but I could as it is lightly stamped/laser cut. Most of the 681's you see are C.A.I. imports and there is nothing wrong with that. I have owned a C.A.I. gun myself. I have a friend that has one un-marked, but you can plainly see the sanding-and-polishing tracks where it was removed. I plan to leave mine alone and I'm not bashing those that have removed any markings......just curious as to how many may have been sold to the general public and not some agency? It's just rare to see one un-marked and I guess I never have other than in a picture.
