Why buy a Compact?

As the original poster of this thread, I thought I would give an update since I bought the 9c and finally got to the range with it today. OK I get it! Shot 250 WWB and 2 dozen Speer GD with no issues at all and it is very accurate. As a bonus, I discovered that I got two 12 round magazines instead of the 12 & 10 that it was described as. Really didn't notice it because one has the flat base plate, but was very pleased. It fits the holster that I use for my 40FS. That makes 2 out of 3 M&Ps that I am totally happy with. Now if my Shield comes back from S&W and works as it should have when I bought it, I will be 3 for 3!:D

I'm 8 for 8 waiting to pick up the 9c tomorrow. Going by everyones input I'll be 9 for 9.

The slide will be marked as to whether it will fire with the mag dropped.

For concealed carry, the hardest part to conceal, for me anyway, is the grip. The slide/barrel just go down your pants, but it's the grip that sticks out and "prints". The compact 9mm has one of the shortest (if not shortest) grip lengths, shorter than the SHIELD even. This makes it very concealable. Also, it's very tough (no more issues with +p rounds than the FS) and although lighter than the FS version, still has some weight to it. While you want lighter when thinking all day carry, having some weight helps with recoil and makes it a mighty fine shooter while still not being considered a "heavy" gun by any means.. It's very comfortable in the hand and I like how it looks, lacking the beaver tail of the FS. Plus you get decent capacity out of the mag in the gun plus any extra mags you may feel inclined to have with you.

When I am driving and going to a place that doesn't allow firearms (such as my place of employment, for example (hospital)), I'll have the 17rd w/xgrip in the gun. When I move it to my person, I insert the flush 12rd mag and it disappears on me.

The SHIELD is a fine firearm, but it's got nothing on the compact. If I want only a handful of rounds, I'll carry a revolver.

Got a FS M&P .45 recently & when comparing to the C model the dimensions weren't that different. The compact doesn't have the beaver tail, handle is a little shorter, & has only a 8 rd mag. Decided to get the 10 rd full size & use it as a HD pistol. Got a shield .40 for CCW.

LUV my 9c. Small enough to fit in coat pocket in winter yet has enough size & weight to overcome recoil which I hear is a problem with some micro 9s.
