Why Do Some People See LEOs as the Bad Guy?

The bad LEO's stand out, just like a bad mail carrier does, more so than their near perfect counterparts. By and far most officers I have met were very courteous and professional people. When I see a LEO in line behind me at a drive through I pay for their order as I pay for mine. I do this just so they know SOMEBODY out there appreciates them and what they do.

I live in a small metro Atlanta town where the police are great, seriously. I have no complaints what so ever.

The cops in your town go through the drive through?!?!?!? Talk about faith in their fellow man.....I don't think you'll ever have any trouble with them assuming the worst of anybody....

Simple: the media is country wide, instantaneous, and always only bad

Bad apple leo beats someone in Miami? People from Maine to San Diego read about it on the net or see it on news in real time.

Bad apple leo rapes, steals, or lies? It is all over the wire for the entire country to read.

Very rarely will you see feel good stories on the main stream media sites. It is usually negative, horrific, or politically biased.

well ... cops are like people:D
If the phone rang asking me for help .. for some I'd lock load and roll ... others .. I'd find a gun to clean.

its the ones that'd produce immaculate arms that are the cause of any cop bashing

I think it has a lot to do with the ability to capture in real time police in action. Technology has come a long way and with the help of Mobil devices makes it easier and convenient to do so. This is on the news right now while I'm writing this post. Video: Bridgeport Police Officers Brutally Kicking Subdued Man Lying Unmoved - Connecticut - YouTube Do a search on YouTube for police brutality, it's all over the Internet and this is going on all over the world. Heres another one for you, police punch woman in face. http://youtu.be/3Fn0mrdmXZI check it out.

Here is my take and I will try to keep this short and simple. Leos catch bad guys. They want to catch anyone breaking the law after all that is their job. Therefore most people have learned to not trust them in fear they are fishing.

Now throw gun owners into the mix were some have been detained for hours and let go simply because they had a gun and a permit.

Ok..my .02. LEO's job is to find something wrong. They are taught to lie if nessessary to get information on whatever situation they happen upon. The job description says please do you best to ascertain what in the hell is going on. They deal with low life's more than somewhat normal people like us here on this blog. I could not do what they do...well not for long. I applaud them and thank them for their service. Having said that. The only way to keep distance between LE and you is to adopt the policy of silence. Never have story time with an LEO. Only thing that is compulsory is ID and maybe vehicle ownership. Burden of proof is on them. I never offer information or answer any questions what so ever, other than my ID info.
Standard answer: I am very sorry. I am not required to answer any questions other than identification of myself and Vechicle ownership and no you may not search my Vechicle. This really sucks that we have come to this way of interaction but one or two run ins with LEO's that bust your balls for no apparent reason other than an ego trip and you will change how you act when detained. I have broken my own rules....but I am a pretty good judge of character. They start with attitude ... I go silent. There are many good LEO's..luck of the draw.

We seldom know what went on before the video.
The Bridgeport video says it is occurring in a park. I wonder how many people the perp nearly ran over during the chase? Something had those cops wound pretty tight.
Just watch a few episodes of COPS where they chase idiots for miles, wind up with wrecks, injured INNOCENT people perps hit, and property damage, and find out the guy ran cause he doesn't have insurance or his license is suspended.

If you watch the vid of the woman who gets punched, at the very beginning, she throws her beer over a CROWD of cops, and appears to be screaming at them. I'm sure it is all complimentary. At best, she is an idiot, but most likely a drunken idiot.

If one seeks to have problems with cops, they can probably supply your needs. ;)

Speaking in general here-

We don't have a perfect system. Cops are just people. Most are good, a few are bad. If you think we'd be better off without them, you're a fool. Be glad they hold the thin blue line in front of you.

I'll reiterate that we don't bash cops on this board.
If that makes anyone unhappy, perhaps another board would be more entertaining for you.

We're done here.
