Why do you own an M&P15?

I bought mine for home defense and target shooting. The way I saw it is I could buy a m&p15 and completely customize it for the same price as some of the other brands. I'm that much father ahead.

And two more great reasons! You would think that the government and the anti-gunners out there would be glad that us gun owners have these weapons just for the above listed reasons. Lets face it, most countries know that if they were to try and invade our country, the civilian population alone would mount an extremely good defense against ground troops.

I bought mine a few months before the "craziness" hit in prices and shortages. I bought it because it was cheaper than a lot of others and I felt that S&W would be around a lot longer for servicing than most of the other "boutique" makes (although I guess it's not that big an issue since the main attraction of the "AR platform" is the interchangeability of most of the components). I haven't shot mine much, waiting for my scope which finally came in after 5 months; so now I get to test it out with my new scope, heavier recoil buffer and new trigger group.

My favorite movie is Red Dawn (the original one, though the remake could make more sense in today's world) and I "dream" of those invaders moving down our street as my family picks them off from our upstairs windows... I just have to find some armor of something to put behind the walls surrounding the windows so the return fire won't hit us as we hide and shoot from the windows... now, about those $999 40mm rifle launched grenades...:)

Bullet proof drywall is the answer.

We built a hospital and used it for the cashier's room. It's way cool stuff but expensive, like $800 a sheet.

Because I can't own a M4.

Also, I asked a friend who works for a competing firearms company what he would get in a light, fun, accurate Armalite Rifle platform that he wouldn't outgrow. The M&P Sport (5R barrel version) was his answer--with no hesitation.

Because liberals SUCK and I enjoy annoying them. The fact that I love to shoot and it's my constitutional right to bear arms are two secondary reasons.

I just joined the forum. I got my Ar15t 2 weeks back cause I was told by my govt that I cannot get one. I used to shoot mostly ak74 and xd40. So now with my first mp15 I will get another one soon. It's my right to bear arms and I will do it to defend our country.

Last year I was looking around for a nice SKS for my son's 18th birthday and upcoming graduation from high school, what I found instead was the S&W M&P-15 Sport. At $690 nothing else came close in price, the fit and finish was better than any other AR on the rack, but what sold me was the lifetime warranty along with that shop being an S&W Service Center. As I recently spent three years in the Middle East, actually SWA, the absence of the forward assist and dust cover are not an issue to me.

I liked it so much as a matter of fact I kept it for myself and ordered a second for my son.

The one downside is that I have not owned ARs or any other guns chambered in 223/5.56 in the past so I had to buy quite a few accessories that I now believe exceed the original cost of the two rifles.

• CMMG 22lr conversion kit (w/ BlackDog 10 round magazines)
• RCBS AR dies (223/5.56)
• Reloading components (CCI #41, CFE-223, Hornady bullets)
• MagPul furniture (MOE in black for my rifle)
• Extra magazines (5 rounders for hunting and 10 rounders for fun)
• Ammunition (little of this and a little of that)
• AimPoint Pro (these things held up great in Afghanistan)
• USGI carry handle/sight (designed by the Marines, every marine a Rifleman)
• Etc.

We have had a lot of fun together shooting these. The CMMG 22lr conversion while not as accurate as 223 works well too, if I can find 22lr. Since I wear glasses I prefer the AimPoint while my son is doing well with the USGI 6/3 carry handle zeroed at 25 yards on his rifle. As for reloading I discovered it is not too hard to come up with loads that are more accurate than PMC or surplus using CFE-223 and Hornady bullets and data from the Hodgdon 2013 Annual.

The only issue I have is keeping my son from becoming a Mall Ninja.

Oh, why do we own two sports? "God created Heaven and Earth, but Samuel Colt made all men equal"

It all started with my M&P FS 9mm. I really love the M&P line and after having the handgun(s) for a while, I realized that rifles were the REAL defenders. LOL

The M&P 15 makes me smile every time I shoot it. Couldn't be happier with it.

The sport was a good deal. The price was right and it went along with my son's 1522.:D He shoots it and I shoot a 15OR.:D I like the warranty, fit, finish and the reputation of the Smith.:D I think that pretty well covers it.

I bought my 15t mainly for coyote hunting, plinking around at the range and if the SHTF I have something to protect the family and property with instead of a bolt action .22

I clean my rifle after every use just like we used to in the Army, until q-tips come out white, never 1 ftf fte or jam...nothing....even bump firing 2 or 3 mags in a row...this gun chews'em up.:)

I really don't care for complete factory ARs so never bought one. If you know exactly what you want and do your research you can select parts and do better yourself.

My first AR build was in 2009 and I chose a S&W M&P-15 stripped lower because it was milspec and had a very nice flared magwell. The finish was better than the Doublestar, Del-Ton and various other lowers I saw. And finally I love the S&W rollmark!

I used a Daniel Defense LPK and BCM receiver extension/stock kit and everything went together smoothly. A Daniel Defense LW midlength upper rides on top. Excellent rifle, no problems. I call it a Dan Wesson! :D

In 1990 I managed to pick up 5 30 round mil issue magazines and have been carrying them around waiting for the day to have an AR to use them with.

I found S&W has a $100 rebate on their 5.56 M&P's. So I started looking. This past week the local gun shop had four M&P15OR at MSRP.

I've always wanted one and the possibility of someone telling me I can't drove me to get one.

I don't know for sure. I think it has something to do with history for me.. My Dad was in WWII and had his bolt action Springfield for some years till he soled it for $75 to put food on the table at a time of need in the early 1970's.. He always kicked himself.. When I was a teen 16, 17. I got my draft card, scared the **** out of me but went down to the draft board and filled out the paperwork did what I needed to do.. I turned 18 and was all set to go to Vietnam but I got a letter from the draft board saying My service was not needed.. found out shortly after that they stopped the draft and the war ended.. I moved to NH in 1979 and got into guns.. In the early 80's the gun shop I dealt with just a few miles away from were I lived had a nice but used Ar on the wall. I think the price was $289 or $389 a few years back from then I knew that even the new ones just a few years before sold for less then that and didn't buy it at the time dealer said it had to do with a ban at the time told me it was a really good price.. Last summer I went to a gun shop I didn't deal with much that was a good distance from me and they had a B/M AR hanging up right over the counter it was like that sweet tone one hears when something you really wanted is put before you.. Huuuuuummmmmmmmm... it was $1000 bucks but it had a aluminum upper and lower and was a Made in Maine one from 2006 lightly used XM15-ES2 model with some extras and case and a little ammo.. I think I wanted to Owen something that would have been my gun in my time if I was drafted.. I'm really a pistol kind a guy.. So for me I guess it has something to to with a time in history that was meaningful to me.. But it is a great gun.. George

1. it is my constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
2.the price was decent
3. my wife said i didnt need one

I'm a lucky guy as the wife was with me when I seen the AR 15, seen the price and still talked me into it.. In fact the last three guns the wife said to me why don't you buy it! Been married to the same girl 29 years this year! George:)

I'll have to teach her how to shoot it and all aspects of handgun safty as she wants it to be a CCW.. But ya great gal.. I am truly blessed! George
