Why does my computer do this?

When I'm typing e-mails and spend a long time writing one, the letters won't register or it takes a moment for them to appear. It's like the keyboard is the problem but I don't think so. It types fine here. What do you think makes this drag when I'm on one e-mail too long? Do you think I have to clear out old e-mails, both sent and recieved? It makes me want to put a bullet through the computer it's so frustrating. Thanks in advance.

What are you using for your email client (program)? Outlook, something similar, or is it web-based like gmail or yahoo?

Do you have similar problems in other programs ? Is this lag happens when you stop typing and then start ? The only reason, I ca think of, is if you take "long" breaks between typing computer might go to power save mode, like stopping HDDs etc and then when you start typing again it will "wake up". Maybe virus scanner goes through your mailbox eating all the resources. It's hard to diagnose remotely even harder with that little info.

And a second question. How often do you clean the cache, temp files, history, cookies, etc.? I'm not a computer expert by any means but I find that, when I clean my computer of accumulated garbage, it seems to stop doing what you are describing. I use a free downloadable cleaner called CCleaner from Piriform.

You brought up exactly what happens. When I'm writing extensively about various details on a subject I'll make long pauses then begin again. I've noticed this problem happens then. But lately when I know I'm writing something rather long I write fast to hopefully avoid this. But three paragraphs in it will start to drag anyway. But you did bring up a part of the problem i didn't mention.

I've had very similar experiences from time to time. It often happens here on the forum when I'm responding to a pm, and sometimes just replying to a thread as right now(no problem with this one -so far). Unfortunately I have just about zero patience dealing with computer problems, which hampers my progress in learning. Oh, well. . .

Windows uses a write behind cache, what that means is when the computer is busy doing other things is stores the data to be executed when the processor is not as busy.

Are you keeping the anti virus up to date? Have you kept Windows up to date? Are you making sure to run your various anti virus software on a full scan at least once a month? There are lots of free options to try running to see if they find anything.

I don't do it to often. i cleared out my cookies when Photobucket hung up on me and that fixed it. I'll look into that again, and other stuff. I usually can fix things but don't know afterward usually what it was I did.

Sounds like you have Concise 2.0 running...or maybe Pithy 3.1.

Assuming you are using Windows?

Clear your cache and temp files, Go to control panel and click Performance and Maintenance. Click free up space on your hard disc. You may also want to defrag but that takes a while, Click rearrange items on your hard disk BUT click ANALYZE FIRST it will tell you if you need to de frag or not.

Go to control panel, click on Printers and other hardware, click on Key board, Where are the repeat delay and rate slide bars set at??

Something is running in the background and taking a death grip on the computer's resources when it does. How old is the computer? Does anybody run Skype on it? When you say you are writing emails, is this in Outlook or on Yahoo webmail. If the latter, then it could be your browser. If you are still using Internet Exploder 7, sorry Explorer 7, (gag, retch) then that could be your issue. It is buggy and easily hung by Flash Player (pause to spit some more) activity and the like in ads that may be on your webmail page.

Certain old versions of Norton Antivirus were also renowned for grabbing nearly the whole machine with the dreaded ccsvchost task.

I had the same problem when typing in any forum or email. First I thought was my wireless keyboard. Nope not it. Then I updated Java. Nope, no help.

Been living with it for months. I Googled the problem and found all kinds of suspected problems none of which helped.

Sooooo, I switched to Firefox and all my troubles went away. Couldn't tell you why, but they did.

So now I'm happy. Hope you figure it out!!

You will love this, but it is kinda weird to upload if you haven't done it before. Go to file hippo.....click Ccleaner free.....wait then click the green arrow...all should be good. Once downloaded, run the analyzer then the registry. Or you can save yourself TONS of grief and spend the money on a MAC like I did. I wouldn't go back on a dare.........Oh, and Internet Explorer/Outlook suxx!! Get a browser like Mozilla firefox---again, free. CCleaner will also allow you to shut down all the BS in your start-up menu. Look at it like starting your car with every electrical accessory on at the same time. It will do it, but not happily.

Yahoo site runs DoubleClick, Right Media and Scorecard Research Beacon. Yahoo mail runs Facebook Social Plug-ins, MediaMind and Right Media. A lot of times it will be those processes running in the background keeping track of which sites you've been visiting.

Make sure you do a deep scan every once in a while instead of a quick scan.

i'll add another vote for firefox, cccleaner and i'll even add malwarebytes as a free antimalware program, and clamwin antivirus.

my guess as with the most is something is using up your memory.
