Why I Needed Another 9mm (this ain't the Lounge)

Good price, I saw one like it today at a gun show, I believe it was $750,$775.

I'd buy one for 7bills.
9mm ammo is a good bit cheaper than 38spl around here.

I would have bought that in a heartbeat. I see six holes and know of several different loading I would like to try. The price was fantastic. Thank you for sharing your good fortune. Bruce

I have never seen one! Obviously they aren't on every Pawn Shop shelf, exactly how rare/collectible are they? I do like that one, VERY nice!

Gary,
Thank you for the instructions. That was really nice of you to send them to me. I'll definitely take your advice and not take the extractor apart (I don't even think I'll shoot it). Let me know if you would rather not have the sheets posted and I'll remove them, but I thought I'd share with the crew. Thanks again.

I've been looking the gun over and it's really quite a mouse trap! The ejector is quite an interesting design with little spring tabs that engage the rim. The gun has a "push the cartridge all the way into the chamber" pin located just above the firing pin (looks like two firing pins from the back). The chambers are slightly recessed too, all very strange!

Chad, thanks for posting Gary's 547 instruction sheet. I have a 1981 pinned barrel 4" SB 547 with the original box, but no instruction booklet. I would love to find a 3" RB for a companion. Since yours looks unfired, I'd definately keep it that way. Great find!

I picked up a 3" 547 ANIB from a friend of mine several years ago, neat guns. I did take the extractor apart, not an awful chore, but not too pleasant either!

It looks like absolute crap. I'll do you a favor and take it off your hands for $250, and you pay the shipping and transfer fee. Seriously though, that is a sweet looking revolver.

The Reason I sent you the 5 page sheet was for information s&wchad..
The only bad thing about posting it here is that if you shrink it down it becomes unreadable, at least to my eyes anyway..
I have taken the extractor mechanism apart & removed both Firing pins too, Mine is a shooter & wasn't realy clean when I got it..
Mine also required an oversized hand as the window had some wear..
I'll offer you $500 for that Mint 3"er

Anyone else that wants those 547 sheets in a huge readable format just email me..
I can read it but need a bigger monitor..
BTW I recieved it from another forum member here
That's the great thing about this Forum!!
Remove that extractor mechanism at your own risk

Why is it that all of us want it or one like it? You would think there is enough of a market for S&W to make these as one of the classics.

We want them because they are collectable because they aren't made any more because no one bought them.

They didn't sell well in 1985 and probably wouldn't sell well now if available. They would probably have the dreaded lock!

S&W Chad I have wanted one of those for quite some time now I'm going to have increase my effort. Great for you and nice pictures, thanks for posting. Larry

Very Nice 9mm you have there. Thanks for sharing.

Mike

My first 9mm wheelgun waas a 940 which I carried as a BUG for my BHP. Then I acquired a 547 3" at an auction in about 83(almost no one bid on it). Then the BUG bit (pun intended). I got a 4" 547 (which I foolishly traded away) but acquired 2 more 940s (one a 3"). Then I discovered the Rugers. Now I have added a Blue Speed Six, one in SS, both with 2.75" barrels. Next came SP101s, a 2", a 3", and a 4" with adjustable sights-even Ruger is stumped but says it is factory. Next I got a 4" blue Speed Six that had been worked over by Cylinder & Slide for match shooting! Last one is a Browning Barracuda with interchangeable cylinders 9mm & .357 with a 3"barrel.
You have what I consider is a classic, a K frame in 9mm, got to love em(well, you don't HAVE to, but I do).
